      Frank L. Landry

      Frank L. Landry, 79, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2002, in the VA hospital in Alexandria.

      He was a native of Richmond, Ill., and he had lived in Lake Charles since 1949. He was an Army veteran who served in the 11th Airborne Division in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was wounded at Leyte Island, Philippines, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He joined the Lake Charles Police Department in 1950 and retired after 28 years of service as assistant chief with the rank of major. He worked many years for Huber Oil Co. after his retirement from the police department. He attended in-service police schools at LSU and Chemical Test for Intoxication School at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He was a graduate of Keeler Polygraph Institute in Chicago and the 6th Session, LSU Law Enforcement Institute. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 8 and the Lake Charles Police Benefit Association and was past president of the Louisiana Peace Officers Association. He served on the executive board of the Municipal Police Officers Association and on the board of trustees for the municipal police employees retirement system. He served on the board of directors for the Lake Charles Municipal Federal Credit Union, and he was a member of Disabled American Veterans.

      Survivors include his wife, Clara Joyce Landry of Lake Charles; two sons, Frank E. and Shane C. Landry, both of Lake Charles; one daughter, Vanessa Murphy of Lake Charles; one stepson, Isom Toby Roy of Lake Charles; two sisters, Violetta Kraft and Anita Landry, both of Hebron, Ill.; seven grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; and one step-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Darla Landry, and one grandson, Frank E. Landry Jr.

      His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, in Johnson Funeral Home. The Revs. Jody B. Robert and Don Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 3-10 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
