Mrs. McBride, 82 Dies Unexpectedly In Port Arthur
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Gertrude McBride, 82, of Rayne, were held Friday night in the Nunnelly-Stanley Chapel of the Chimes, Port Arthur, Tex., with the Rev. Jesse Thomson, associate minister of the Methodist Temple officiating.
Mrs. McBride died unexpectedly at 2:50 am. Friday at the home of a friend, Mrs. W. T. Patrick. She had been in Port Arthur for 30 days as the guest of Mrs. Bert Davis.
The body was sent to the Rebe Funeral Home in San Antonio for burial in a San Antonio cemetery.
Mrs. McBride, the former Gertie Shoemaker, was a member of a pioneer family of Crowley. For the past 12 years she had made her home in the Ridge community with Mrs. John Riser and the Misses Zora and Dosha Smith. She was also related, by marriage, to the McBride family of Rayne.
Survivors are two nephews, Dr. Harold C. Kelly of Bronxville, N. Y.,; and Fletcher Shoemaker of Mobile, Ala., and a niece, Mrs. Frieda Kelly of Washington, D. C.
