    • Obituary:

Edward Earl "Ed" Brown, age 93 entered into eternal life on July 7, 2022. Ed entered into this life on May 23, 1929 in Port Arthur, Tx to James B. Brown and Bertha (McCormick) Brown. Ed was the third of four children born to James and Bertha Brown. He attended public school in Port Arthur and graduated from Stephen F. Austin Senior High School. Ed's talent as a gifted musician developed at an early age and he subsequently followed in the footsteps of his older siblings as a member of the high school band and in his own band playing dances in the local area. After high school, Ed attended Lamar State College of Technology (now Lamar University) and also served in the United States Army (1951-1953) in the Counter Intelligence Corps (Army CIC) supporting the rebuilding of Japan after World War II.

Ed married his childhood sweetheart Anna Vivian Talbot in 1952 and together they raised three children, Judith Kim, Natalie Ann, and Mark Gerard Brown. After serving in the Army, Ed enrolled in Sam Houston State University and earned his first Bachelor's Degree in Music. Following graduation he worked in the Missouri City school district as a band director and later in the Port Arthur area where he continued teaching band until a family member (who was a physician) encouraged him to consider a career change pursuing a career in pharmacy.

Ed and Vivian relocated the family to Austin, Texas in 1961, where he enrolled in the University of Texas College of Pharmacy and earned his second Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy in 1964. Ed practiced pharmacy for 50 years, as recognized by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, working the first half of his career at Walgreens and the remainder at Randall's until his retirement in 2015. He met many wonderful friends and colleagues during his tenure as a pharmacist at both Randall's and Walgreens and was especially thankful for the support of his boss, Frank, at Randall's, as well as the numerous pharmacists and pharmacy techs who helped him for many years.

Ed enjoyed vacation trips to many places including a family trip to Colorado in 1967, and quarterly meetings with his siblings at various tourist locations across Texas starting in 1988. Other memorable trips included Hawaii in 1985 where he ventured into Hanauma Bay for snorkeling, and a cruise to Cozumel in 2009 to celebrate his 80th birthday! He also enjoyed annual trips to the Texas Gulf Coast where he loved to sit and watch the seagulls and pelicans gliding across the water at the Padre Island National Seashore. Ed also enjoyed watching Texas Longhorn teams especially the Longhorn Baseball Team during their regular season and at the College World Series for many years.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha Brown, older brother James L. Brown, Sr., and sister Geneva (Brown) Hargraves, and brother-in-law Roger Hargraves and Vivian Brown. He is survived by one brother Thomas Brown and sister-in-law Esther Brown of Tulsa, Oklahoma; children Judith Kim Hajek and husband John Hajek, Jr., Natalie Ann Brown, and Mark Gerard Brown; three grandchildren, John Travis Hajek, Edward Scott Hajek, and Michelle Renee (Brown) Flores, all of Austin, Tx, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed loved his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews and was very proud of all of them. He was truly blessed with many friends and extended family, especially Bill and Janet Labonville and their children William (wife Jessie) and Kristine (husband Shane) and their children whom he loved and considered to be part of his family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Allen Sonstein and his staff for the excellent care provided to our father and grandfather (30+ years) and Dr. Sukanya Burugu and staff following the retirement of Dr. Sonstein. We sincerely thank each and every specialist (too numerous to list) who cared for our dad most of his life. Dad also received excellent care from the nurses and staff at Buckner Villas and their skilled nursing center in his final months. Thank you also to Rolanda, his caregiver since January 2021 for her kindness and assistance to our dad. In accordance with his wishes there will be no formal funeral service.

A gathering of family and friends for Edward will be held Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cookwaldencapitalparks.com for the Brown family.
