Notes - Obituary:
WINNIE-STOWELL - Virgil Hoffpauir was struck and killed by a car at about 9 p.m. Saturday as he was crossing Hwy 124 about 50 ft. north of the Chestnut intersection in Winnie. Hoffpauir was dead on arrival at the Winnie Medical Center. According to DPS Sgt. Alvin Schmidt, the car was driven by Michael Kole, formerly of Winnie, now living in Beaumont.
Funeral for Virgil P. "Mushie" Hoffpauir, 48, of Winnie will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Broussard's Mortuary in Winnie with burial in Fairview Cemetery. A native of Nome, he had lived in Winnie 45 years and was a deck hand on a tugboat.
Survivors include one son, Ronnie Hoffpauir of Winnie; two daughters, Linda Faye Rodriguez of Stowell and Brenda Marie Stevens of Beaumont, his mother, Mrs. Douglas Hoffpauir of Winnie; four brothers, Emery Joe Hoffpauir of Livingston and Floyd Hoffpauir, David Hoffpauir and L.D. Hoffpauir, all of Winnie; and five grandchildren.
