    • Obituary:

      LAFAYETTE -- Funeral services for Louis Hill Bonin Jr., 71, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

      Monsignor Glen Provost will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery under the direction of Delhomme Funeral Home.

      Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 6 p.m.; and from 11 a.m. Sunday.

      Mr. Bonin died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, in a Lafayette hospital.

      He was a native of Lake Charles and had lived in Lafayette since 1983. He attended undergraduate school and earned a juris doctor degree at Loyola University in New Orleans. He began working in the petroleum industry in 1952 and in 1964 joined Gulf Oil in Pittsburgh. He served as an executive in Tokyo and Seoul, South Korea, and retired as corporate vice president and executive director in Washington, D.C., in 1982. He served as chairman of the Federal Relations Committee of the American Petroleum Institute and was a featured expert on "The MacNeil/Lehrer Report," "Today" and "Good Morning America."

      He formed a law firm in 1983, specializing in oil, gas and real estate. He was a member of the national, state and Lafayette bar associations, the Loyola President's Council, and the national, state and local Realtors associations. He was a member of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and served as president and board member of the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana. He also was a trustee of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

      Survivors include his wife, Joyce Bonin of Lafayette; one daughter, Ann Elizabeth Messina of New Orleans; two sons, Marc Louis Bonin of Charleston, S.C., and Paul Edward Bonin of Lafayette; one brother, Glenn Edward Bonin of Sulphur; one sister, Nada Landry of Lake Charles; his mother, Rita Bonin of Lafayette; and four grandchildren.

      Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503 or the American Lung Association, the family said.
