    • Obituary:

      Mrs. Gale M. Underwood Andrus, 87, of Rusk passed away August 29, 2023 in Tyler. She was born May 23, 1936 in Gallatin to Robert Edgar Underwood and Matilda Allen Underwood. She graduated from Gallatin High School Class of 1954, where she played on the ladies basketball team, wearing #54 on her jersey. While in high school, she worked as a soda jerk at Woods Drugstore in Jacksonville. She loved to fish and ride around and take in the countryside. She is a member of Grace Fellowship Church.

      Mrs. Andrus is survived by her daughters: Sheila Hassell and husband Keith of Rusk, Brenda Dominy and husband Earl of Rusk, Starla Lattaro of Jacksonville; sons Jakie Walker of Tyler and Danny Shugart and wife Robbie of Bullard; stepson: Duane Andrus and wife Dene of Sulphur Springs; stepdaughters: Vicky Lucas and Kim Andrus; her caretaker that she loved like a daughter: Lynn Mettlen and husband Myrel; as well as a multitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Herman Andrus; daughter: Debra Walker and her brothers and sisters.

      Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, 2904 Loop 343, Rusk, TX, with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Keith Hassell will officiate. Burial will follow at Taylor Cemetery in Gallatin.

      Services are under the direction of the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Rusk, TX.
