Columbus, GA- MSgt (US Air Force Ret) Murl Edward Harmon, 76, of Columbus, GA, passed away suddenly Sunday, July 17, 2016.
He was born July 5, 1940 in Goose Creek, TX to his late parents John and Gertrude Dillard. Murl proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years including several tours of Viet Nam. After retiring he moved to Columbus to work Civil Service at Fort Benning where he met his wife Barbara, and joined the Temple of Israel Synagogue. Murl love riding motor cycles, gardening, and cooking on the grill for family outings. He adored his family and loved to visit with them.
Along with his parents, Mr. Harmon is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Louisa Harmon; one brother, J.L. Dillard, Jr.; and brother in-law, Morton Harris.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Barbara Harmon; children, Celeste Barfield, Murl Edwards Harmon, Jr., Brian Steve Harmon, and Sharon Diane Wilson; nephews Joseph Wolpin, Aidan Wolpin, Alvin Harris; nieces Wendy Greenberg, Tracy Lips, Beth Harris; brother in-law, Bill Wolpin, and sister in-law Judy Harris; grandchildren, Lauren Wallace, Sam Wilson, Kristopher Wilcox, Brian Harmon Jr., Jacquelynn Woods, Robert Lescelius, Donald Lescelius, and Monica Thomas; great grandchild, Grace Woods.
A Graveside Service with full military honors will be Thursday, July 21, 2016 10:00 am at Fort Benning's Main Post Cemetery. Rabbi Schwartz will officiate.
