      Ralph Buron Tompkins
      July 7, 1931 - February 16, 2025

Ralph Buron Tompkins, 93, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 7, 1931, in Oil City, Louisiana, and raised in Vivian, Louisiana, Ralph was the son of Delaney and Gladys Tompkins. He attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he played trombone in the LSU Tiger Marching Band, proudly performing at games and events as a devoted fan of the Tigers. He later graduated from Centenary College with a degree in English. Following his graduation, he embarked on a brief teaching career at C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, where he inspired his students with his love of learning and language. Soon after, he answered the call to serve his country, first as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army and later in the U.S. Coast Guard. His dedication and service exemplified his deep sense of duty and patriotism.

After his military service, Ralph built a successful career as a Property and Casualty Insurance Manager, where his integrity and leadership earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

In 1958, Ralph married the love of his life, Esther Knouse, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Ralph's greatest joy was his family. He was known for his quick wit, unwavering devotion, and deep love for those closest to him. His strong faith in God was the foundation of his life, and he lived each day with faith and gratitude.

Ralph had a deep passion for LSU football and the great state of Louisiana, always cheering on the Tigers with enthusiasm. He also enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and watching sports on TV, sharing these moments with family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Esther Tompkins; his sons, Lane Tompkins and wife Cathy, and their daughter Emily; Charles Tompkins and wife Silvana, and their son Nicholas; and Ronald Tompkins and wife Rochelle, and their children Ryan and Jordan. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to his family, who will forever cherish his love, wisdom, and laughter.

Special thanks are extended to Philomeena Young, his constant caregiver and companion, for her unwavering care and kindness, and to Don Webb, a loyal friend to the very end.

Ralph's warmth, humor, and steadfast love will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
