  Obituary: Mary J. Jerke Mary J. Jerke, 92, of Piggott died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Piggott Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 31, 1909, in Greenway, the daughter of the late John Houston Crow and Maggie Markum. She married Henry Beard in 1926. He preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1955. She married William Jerke on Aug. 31, 1959 in Flint, Mich. She was a GM factory worker and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenway. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, David Presson; a great-granddaughter, Patty Presson; one brother, Truman Crow; and two half-brothers, John Henry Crow and Oliver Crow. She is survived by one son, Houston Beard of Dacula, Ga.; one daughter, Mary Marcilene Presson of Greenway; one half-sister, Lena Gatis; 10 step-children; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday (today) at at Irby Funeral Home in Piggott. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Irby Funeral Home in Piggott with David Finley officiating. Burial will be Mitchell Cemetery near Greenway with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. (Published in The Clay County Courier on October 2, 2001)
