- Obituary:
Donald "Don" Bennett, 69 of Walnut Cove and former resident of Greensboro died Friday February 27, 2015 at his residence. Don was born June 2, 1945 in Greensboro the son of the late Carlis Eugene and Emma Eunice Simmons Bennett. He was retired from Bank of America Corporate Office where he had served as a security manager. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Army 1st Cav Division serving in VietNam. Don graduated from Greensboro High School (now Grimsley) and after serving over 11 years in the U.S. Army, he attended Community College studying Business Management and Auto Mechanics.
On March 26, 1983 he was married to his best friend and soulmate, Janis Beard Bennett who survives of the home. In addition to his wife Janis, Don is survived by two loving daughters, Brandi B. Jones and significant other Paul Prado of WA and Terri B. Neas and husband John of VA; two sisters, Diane Sandlin and husband Charles of Greensboro, Susan Humble and husband Hal of Oak Island; one brother, Rodney Bennett and wife Stephanie of Asheboro, three sweet and special granddaughters, Helena Eleftheratos, Caryn Neas and Adriahanna Prado (who affectionately called him PaPa), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members as well as a wealth of good friends and his beloved dogs, Tacota & Angel.
Don loved playing and coaching church softball, being involved with the Boy Scouts, fishing, hiking, family camping and cheering on his family members at their ballgames and special events. During the last few years of his life, Don became a carpenter. He created several pieces of art and furniture which he shared with some family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 4th, in the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Jim Purdy. Interment with Military Honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
