Helen Faye Simmons, 74, died at 3:22 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at Bethalto Care Center.
She was born April 7, 1931, in Nimons, Ark., to Elain and Lena (Crow) Gattis.
She married Luther M. Simmons on Feb. 2, 1954, in Kennett, Mo. He died Nov. 18, 1991.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Tabernacle in Wilsonville.
Survivors include seven children and their spouses, Barbara Hert of East Alton, Terry Stahl and Don and Kathy Stahl, all of Bunker Hill, Steve and Vickie Simmons of Bethalto, Betty Broadway of Atlanta, Norma Jean and Don Haddon of Mountain Home, Ark., and Nellie and Pete Garnett of Alhambra; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Joann Gattis and Fannie Gattis, both of Kennett, Brenda Gattis of Hayti, Mo., and Polly Barks of Piggott, Ark.; and a brother, Frank Gattis of Houston, Texas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Marty Stahl; two sisters, Dorothy Owens and Oma Barks; a brother, Densil Gattis; and three sons-in-law, Joe Broadway, Clarence McElvain and Al Hert.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where the Revs. Kenneth Martin, Stephen Martin and Daryl Dolbee will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be at Bunker Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
