MISSOURI CITY, TX - Graveside services for James Birchfield Campbell, Sr., will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 1998 at Centuries Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.m Monday, February 23, 1998 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel.
Mr. Campbell was born December 10, 1912 in Many, LA to Thomas Madison Campbell and Mary Greer Campbell. He passed away February 19, 1998 at the age of 85 in Missouri City, Texas. Mr. Campbell lived in Shreveport for 63 years. He worked for Arkla Gas Company, Triangle Pipeline Company, and retired from Atlas Refining Co. in 1978. He graduated from high school in Shongaloo, LA and attended college in Arkansas for two years. He entered the Army Air Corps for four years and was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base. He was a former member of Highland Baptist Church and Summer Grove Baptist Church while living in Shreveport. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, trustee, and on several committees.
Mr. Campbell was president of the Institute of Management Accountants - Shreveport Chapter 1970-71; member of the Chamber of Commerce and worked with Junior Achievers for three years.
Survivors are his wife, with whom he had celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on May 20, 1997, Callie Mae Lundsford Campbell, Missouri City, Texas; sons, James B. Campbell, Jr. and his wife, Betty of Spring, Texas, Robert G. Campbell and his wife, Judy of Missouri City, Texas; sister, Lucille Ragsdale and her husband, Forest of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Michael A. Campbell and his wife, Karin of Bloomington, Indiana, James B. Campbell and his wife, Amanda of Austin, Texas, Michelle A. Zimmerman and her husband, David of Wiesbaden, Germany; numerous brothers and sister-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Ruth Campbell and Hattie Belle Robertson; and one brother, Thomas M. Campbell.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be sent to Westbury Baptist Church, 10425 Hillcroft, Houston, TX 77096.
