Steven Edward Barrett
January 11, 1952 - May 3, 2021
Steven Edward Barrett Sr. passed away on May 3, 2021 in Houston, Texas. He was born to parents William and Ruby (Roberds) Barrett in Galena Park, Texas on January 11, 1952. Steve is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda Harsey; and grandson, Hagen Edward Barrett. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Debra Sue (Bryant) Barrett; daughter, Misty René Barrett; son, Steven Edward Barrett Jr. and his wife Peggy; sister, Tricia Miller and husband Michael; brother-in-law, Jimmy Bryant and wife Karen; sister-in-law, Rhonda VanderWiele; grandchildren, Kaylan Darlene Cross, Kelsey Elizabeth Cross, Colton Heath Brown, and Jaxon Dale Barrett; great-grandchildren, Gavyn, Gage, and Saylor. The Barrett family says Steve's life can easily be described in three very important words. "God, Family and Country" Steve grew up in Port of Houston and attended Furr High School. Steve knew from the first time he met Debbie, that he was going to make her his bride. The couple would go on to spend 48 years, 11 months, and 3 days happily married. Steve proudly served in the United States Navy defending our Country during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal, and a Unit Citation. Post his Navy service, he and Debbie returned to the Houston area and were blessed with their two children, Misty René and Steven Jr,. Steve was a member of the Masonic Lodge C.A. Fortner #1304. He made his profession of faith at Port of Houston Baptist Church, later moving his membership to Munn St. Baptist Church, and is a current member of The First Baptist Church of Porter. He worked for Arkema, Houston Plant for 24 years until his retirement in 2013. Steve enjoyed playing guitar, and in his younger years the drums. He especially enjoyed playing his favorite Country and Gospel songs. He was an avid golfer and spent many rounds with his son. Steve liked to travel and enjoyed cruising. He and Debbie spent their most recent years in the Kingwood area, enjoying their family and friends. Steve was a loving husband, daddy and honey. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family invites you to join them for a visitation on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Carter-Conley Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services officiated by Minister Jim Bryant will take place the following day, Thursday, at Carter-Conley Funeral Home at 11:15 A.M. Graveside services are to immediately follow at 1:15 P.M. at Houston National Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Conley Funeral Home.
