James Thomas Vessels, Jr.
1953 - 2016
Mr. James Thomas Vessels, Jr., age 62 of Whitney, passed away Friday, January 1, 2016. He was born May 25, 1953 in Ennis, Texas, son of the late James Thomas and Illa Claudette Martin Vessels, Sr. He grew up and attended schools in Ennis before enlisting with the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked in the Oil Industry for several years. "Junior," as he was called by family and friends, then became a self employed handyman. He was skilled in carpentry, landscaping and could fix just about anything that was broken. He moved to the Whitney area in the early nineties and enjoyed fishing whenever he had time. He also loved listening to country music. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of American Legion Post 522. Also preceding him in death were three uncles, Arthur Cecil Vessels, Robert Lynn Vessels and David Reese Martin and one aunt, Annetta Wickliff. Survivors include three sisters, Jackie Frazier and husband Luke, Jean Brown and husband Randy and Annetta Kay Horn; two brothers, John David Vessels and Gary Lynn Vessels and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing and visitation with family and friends will be held Tuesday, January 5 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.
