  Obituary: John William Grant, 83, of Monticello died Thursday, October 4, 2001, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Monticello. He was born May 24, 1918, in Drew County to the late Drew Grant and Mattie Brooks Grant. He was retired from texile mill work as a supply agent and was an U. S. Navy veteran, a deacon emeritus of First Baptist Church of Monticello and a Mason. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Terri Lee Nichols; two brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Martha Jane Tedder Grant of Monticello; one daughter, Denitia Nichols of Palestine, TX; one brother, Lamer Grant of Jacksonville, NC; two grandchildren, Janet and Jana Cunningham of Milo; and two great-grandchildren, Krystal Deal and Karlee Robbins. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 14, in the First Baptist Church of Monticello with burial at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Dodson officiating. Arrangements were by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home of Monticello.
