  Obituary: Marilou Deeming Horton, Majestic Oaks Court, Orange City, died Friday, January 1, 2010, in Orange City, at the age of 82. Born in1927 in Union City, Indiana, to Paul James Deeming and Perle Lucile Sternke Deeming, she lived in Brookfield, Missouri, before moving to DeLand as a young woman. She graduated from Stetson University, where she studied drama and was active in the Little Theater. She met her future husband, Dr. Thomas R. Horton, also an alumnus of Stetson, at Daytona Beach during the summer of 1947 and married him that December in DeLand. She taught school in Florida before moving with her husband to Bethesda, Maryland, and White Plains, New York, among other places, before retiring and returning to DeLand in 1991, where Dr. Horton continued to serve on the Stetson Board of Trustees after a long academic and business career supported by his wife. She also loved the beach, golf, tennis, fishing, and was always up for an adventure. Marilou was known for her love of animals and for a short time worked as a veterinarian's assistant. She had an optimistic spirit and supported many organizations and individuals throughout her life. She was a world traveler whose enthusiasm and love of life brought joy to everyone who was privileged to know her. She treasured her many friends. She is survived by her devoted family. Survivors include three daughters, Susan Horton Polos, Katonah, NY, Jean Swain Horton, Oakland, CA and Marilyn Horton, Bronxville, NY; her cousin, Marilyn Rose Thudium, Brookfield, MO; two granddaughters and two grandsons; three nieces and two nephews; and her cat, Cutie Pie. The family requests no flowers and asks that memorial donations be made to either the Thomas R. Horton Scholarship Fund, c/o Stetson University, 503 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand, FL 32720, or to the West Volusia Care Center of the Halifax Health Hospital, 1625 Veteran's Memorial Parkway, Orange City, FL 32763, in honor of Marilou Horton.
