    Joseph J. Skrivanek, 77, of Cooks Point community, died Friday morning, February 1, in a Temple hospital.

    Mr. Skrivanek was born June 6, 1913, in the Cooks Point community near Caldwell. A life-long educator, he received his early education in Cooks Point and was a graduate of Caldwell High School. He received his Bachelor and Master of Arts Degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He also did post graduate work at the University of Houston and Charles University in Prague, Czechoslavakia. He served as high school Band Director and Choir Director at East Bernard High School; high school band director at Rosenberg High School, now known as Lamar Consolidated High School; high school Principal of A&M Consolidated High School; junior high school Band Director of Anson Jones and Lamar Junior High Schools in Bryan and retired in 1975 from the Modern Language Arts Department at Texas A&M University, teaching Czech and Spanish. An active farmer and rancher, he has been a registered polled Hereford breeder since 1952 and was a member of the American and Texas Polled Hereford Association; National and Independent Cattleman's Association. he served as president of the Czech Education Foundation of Texas and was active in many civic and community organizations. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Rosenberg Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M> and the Arabia Shrine Temple Scottish Rite in Houston. He was an organizing member and Choir Director of the Bryan-College Station Brethren Church and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Corps as a Sergeant.

    He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William J. Skrivanek, Dr. John M. Skrivanek, Frank J. Skrivanek, Dr. Daniel A. Skrivanek, one infant sister and three infant brothers.

    Survivors include his wife, Grace Skrivanek of Cooks Point community; two sons, Joseph J., III and wife, Susan Skrivanek of Caldwell, Thomas A. and wife, Shelom Skrivanek of Cooks Point community; two grand-daughters, Sarah and Anne Skrivanek of Caldwell; two brothers, Dr. Ervin J. and wife, Faustine Skrivanek of Ennis, Julius A. and wife, Jodie Skrivanek of Bryan; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. John M. (Lil) Skrivanek of Plano; Mrs. Frank J. (Sarah) Skrivanek of Rockdale, Mrs. Daniel A. (Maudee) Skrivanek of Ennis; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

    Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 3 from Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell with Rev. Joseph Polasek and Rev. Henry Beseda officiating. Interment followed in the New Tabor Church Cemetery near Caldwell.

    Serving as pallbearers were Floyd Boston, Jr., Lorence Bravenec, Colbert Drgac, Gary Skrivanek, Greg Skrivanek, Paul Skrivanek and Ben Trcalek, Jr.

    Honorary pallbearers were Robert Skrabanek, Alvin Drgac, the Officers and Directors of the Czech Education Foundation of Texas.

    Memorials may be made to the Czech Education Foundation of Texas, Bryan-College Station Brethren Church or a favorite charity.

    Obituary:

    Thomas Anders Skrivanek, 53, passed away on July 17, 2000, at Cooks Point. He was born January 21, 1947, in Rosenberg and had lived most of his life in the Cooks Point Community of Burleson County. He was a rancher and partner in Skrivanek Polled Hereford Ranch. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1965 in Bryan, and attended Blinn College and Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, majoring in music education. He was a member of the A&M United Methodist Church in College Station.

    Active in community affairs, Tommy held membership and various offices such as the Burleson County Farm Bureau, including vice-president, president of the Caldwell Rotary Club, and he also held offices in the Burleson County Young Farmers. He had been a member of the Board of Directors of the Czech Education Foundation of Texas and a member of the American Hereford Association.

    His love of music, especially classical, was a hobby and interest all of his life. He further had a life-long love for the land, animals of all kinds, farming and ranching. He attended various programs and short-courses in an effort to keep his knowledge up on the most current issues and upgrade his skills.

    Tommy is survived by his wife Shelom, his mother Grace Skrivanek, both of Cooks Point, a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Susan Skrivanek of Caldwell, and two nieces - Sarah Skrivanek Bush of Bryan and Anne Skrivanek of Caldwell, along with numerous cousins. He was proceeded in death by his father, Joseph J. Skrivanek, Jr. in 1991.

    Services were handled by Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Graveside services were held at the Skrivanek Family Cemetary located on the Thomas Skrivanek Ranch in the Cooks Point community with Rev. Henry Beseda officiating. Active pallbearers included: Billy Albright, Smitter Loehr, Randy Hall, Joe Dan Crnkovic, Dr. Clinton Machann, Allen Steck, and Joseph Provazek. Honorary pallbearers included: Billy Nowak, Ben Trcalek, Jr., Jessie Jerkins, John David Skrivanek, Franklin Stech, Dr. Jerry Hosek, George Hlavinka, Dr. Alvin Kutach, Andreas Lopez, and Fred Perez.
