    Mrs. Claudette Martin Flaherty, 71, of Hillsboro passed away Sunday, February 11, 2007. She was born September 11, 1935, in Hillsboro, daughter of Claude Lester and Illa Mae Seay Martin, where she grew up and attended schools.

    She married Alphonse Flaherty August 15, 1980.

    She was an Avon salesperson before becoming a full-time mother raising her children.

    She then was employed in the cafeteria department at Hill College for the next 21 years until her retirement in 1998.

    She enjoyed visiting with people and attending garage sales.

    She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church of Hillsboro, Catholic Daughters of Mary Court #2123 and Hillsboro Senior Circle.

    Survivors include: her husband, Alphonse Flaherty of Hillsboro; three sons, James and John Vessels, both of Whitney and Gary Vessels and wife, Karen, of Milford; two daughters, Kay Horn of Whitney and Jean Brown and husband, Randy, of Peoria; one stepson, Alphonse Flaherty Jr. of Temple; one stepdaughter, Patricia Cowan of Valley Mills; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her faithful K-9 companion, Daisy.

    Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsboro.

    Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro with Father Alberto Bueno serving as celebrant.

    Pallbearers were Jerry Vessels, Jason Vessels, Steven Flaherty, Joseph Greninger, Milton Flaherty, and Johnny Ray Neagle.

    Mr. David Reece Martin, 56, of Eastland died Sunday, December 21, at an Eastland hospital. He was born October 19, 1941 in Hillsboro, son of Claude and Illa Mae Seay Martin. He attended Hillsboro High School and four years at Hill College. He served 20 years in the U. S. Navy. He was a certified dispatcher working for Eastland County Dispatch, Eastland County Cooperative and Hillsboro Police Department for several years. He married Martha Jane Mann on October 20, 1991 in Hillsboro. Survivors include: his wife; three children, Ellie Martin of Fort Worth, Kevin Martin of Glenn Heights and Jonathan Martin of Eastland; three stepchildren, Nancy Dool, Laney Porter and James Vinson, all of Ranger; one sister, Claudette Flaherty of Hillsboro; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and two great-great-nieces. Graveside srvices with full military honors wre held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, at Ridge Park Cemertery in Hillsboro with Rev. Reggie Melvin officiating.

    Mr. James Thomas Vessels, Jr., age 62 of Whitney, passed away Friday, January 1, 2016. He was born May 25, 1953 in Ennis, Texas, son of the late James Thomas and Illa Claudette Martin Vessels, Sr. He grew up and attended schools in Ennis before enlisting with the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked in the Oil Industry for several years. "Junior," as he was called by family and friends, then became a self employed handyman. He was skilled in carpentry, landscaping and could fix just about anything that was broken. He moved to the Whitney area in the early nineties and enjoyed fishing whenever he had time. He also loved listening to country music. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of American Legion Post 522. Also preceding him in death were three uncles, Arthur Cecil Vessels, Robert Lynn Vessels and David Reese Martin and one aunt, Annetta Wickliff. Survivors include three sisters, Jackie Frazier and husband Luke, Jean Brown and husband Randy and Annetta Kay Horn; two brothers, John David Vessels and Gary Lynn Vessels and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing and visitation with family and friends will be held Tuesday, January 5 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.

    Diana Jean Brown (Vessels)
    Tuesday, December 2nd, 1958 - Thursday, January 5th, 2023

    Diana "Jean" Brown was born on December 2, 1958 to Claudette and James Vessels in Hillsboro, Texas. She entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on January 5, 2023. Jean was born and raised in Hillsboro, though she did live for awhile in Ennis, Texas. As a Child she loved spending time with her siblings and cousins. After attending Hill College, she worked as a waitress and cleaned homes. Jean devoted her life to taking care of others. She was a caretaker not by trade, but by choice. She loved caring for people and making their life easier. She had a heart of gold and had the talent of turning a bad situation into a good one. She was the matriarch of the family and will be missed dearly.

    Jean is the mother of two sons, Jerry and Joseph. Her sons have always been her 1st priority. Jean also thoroughly enjoyed her role as grandmother to Megan, Julie, Emily Jessica, Camey, Mariah, "Tre", and great grandmother to Hunner. She was family oriented, and especially enjoyed taking trips with them. Once she took a trip to California with Jerry and her grandchildren; though she was robbed - she still had the time of her life. Another trip she fondly remembered was going to Colorado with her husband Randy and her son Joseph.
    She had a vivid sense of humor, and was always pulling pranks. Her favorite colors were blue and yellow; she was especially fond of yellow roses. Jean could often be found playing cards, dominos, going to the lake or beach, and visiting casinos. She enjoyed the music of Alan Jackson, and Elvis; television shows Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and the Young and the Restless. Jean gave back to her community as a member of Peoria Baptist Church and American Legion in Whitney, Post 522.

    She is preceded in death by her mother Claudette Martin vessels Flaherty; father James Vessels; brother James Vessels, Jr; sister Kay Horn; and brother in law Jesse Spurgers.

    Jean is survived by her beloved husband Randy Brown; children Jerry Vessels and wife Sheila, son Joseph Greninger and wife Rachel; grandchildren Megan Vessels, Julie Vessels, Emily Vessels, Jessica Hughes, Camey Hughes, Mariah Greninger, and Joseph Allen Greninger III "Tre"; sister Jackie Frazier; brothers Gary Vessels and John Vessels; great grandson Hunner Vessels; many nieces and nephews; and countless other chosen family who called her mom or Aunt Jean.
