Dolores Crawford Gibbs, lovingly known as Sugie, to her family and friends, went home to be with the Lord on August 27, 2017. Sugie was married to the love of her life, John Daniel Gibbs, Sr., for 45 years. Sugie had a heart of gold and spent her working life caring for others as an aide at Humana Hospital (Springhill Medical Center) in Springhill, LA. She served the Lord faithfully with her church family at New Sarepta Baptist Church in Sarepta, LA. Her faith was always strong, even after losing a son, daughter and a grandson, all at a young age. Sugie loved her family and especially enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She kept a drawer in her refrigerator filled with chocolates for her grands and the neighborhood kids, who she treated like her own. Sugie always welcomed everyone and could never have too much family. She loved to cook and many of the memories the family will cherish are from time spent with her in the kitchen and around the table.

Robinson and husband, Dr. James Robinson of Bossier City; granddaughter, Angela Pine Mills and husband, Chad; granddaughter-in-law, Bridget Pine; great-grandchildren, Hayden Mills, Parker Mills, Haley Pine, Ryker Pine and Maddox Pine; step-grandchildren, Patrick Robinson and wife, Cherie; Sarah Williams and husband, John; Emily Claycomb and husband, Doug, Erin Foster and husband Gary; step-great grandchildren, Tim Robinson, Katie LeChuga and husband, Frankie, Rebecca Robinson, Caroline Williams, Drew Maienschein, Graham Claycomb and Baylee Foster; a special niece, Angela Newsom and husband, Wayne and son, Trey; a treasured friend, Debbie Clark Jones; and many other loving family members.

Memorial for slain Deputy Scott Pine unveiled on anniversary of his death

In the year since Orange County Deputy Jonathan Scott Pine was killed on duty, his youngest son, Maddox, has learned how to walk and talk.

Pine's family has marked birthdays and holidays without him, his wife, Bridget Pine, said during a memorial service honoring her husband Wednesday.

"He kept our family bonded tightly together. Now our family has fallen hopelessly apart," Bridget Pine said, her voice breaking. "This past year has been a never-ending nightmare. Every day without him brings new challenges, new firsts, without Scott."

On the one-year anniversary of Pine's death Wednesday, about 200 people attended a candlelight vigil in the Westminster Landing subdivision in southwest Orange County, down the street from where he was killed.

His parents and children unveiled a memorial, a plaque embedded into a large concrete star on the ground surrounded by yellow and purple pansies in a park that has been renamed in honor of Pine.

Pine left behind three children: Haley, 7; Ryker, 5; and Maddox, 2, who attended the vigil in matching navy blue T-shirts that read "I wear this for my daddy" on the front, with a photo of their father on the back.

Bridget Pine's T-shirt said "I wear this for my husband."

"A year ago today, I had to tell my children that their father is never coming home again," Bridget Pine said. "My life will continue to be lived in lost memories, with three children that want their daddy back."

Pine was Florida's first law-enforcement officer to die on duty in 2014.

He was called to the Westminster Landing subdivision to investigate a report of car burglaries nearby.

He spotted the burglary suspect, 28-year-old Benjamin Holtermann, and started chasing him. Holtermann ambushed Pine, shooting him three times with a stolen handgun.

Holtermann then shot and killed himself. His girlfriend, Erica Pugh, was arrested for her role as an accomplice to Pine's death and sentenced to 15 years in prison last month.

"Scott died the same way he lived. A servant, one loved by a great many," said Pine's pastor, David Uth of First Baptist Church of Orlando.

Pine's friend and colleague, Deputy Scott Hepburn, had Pine's name engraved in his badge.

Hepburn said he wears a Louisiana State University pin on his uniform to honor his friend, a Louisiana native and LSU football fan.

"We still look at this uniform every day, when we put it on, and it still reminds us of Scott," Hepburn said.

On Wednesday, a large group of neighbors from the Westminster Landing subdivision joined Pine's family and colleagues at the vigil.

Since Pine's death, residents have become warmer toward one another, said Dee McGowan, who has lived in the area for three years.

"The neighbors have come out more in friendship to each other," she said. "It's much tighter, much closer."

    Obituary:

BOSSIER CITY, LA - A memorial celebrating the life of Scott Pine will be held Saturday, May 31, 1:30pm at Airline Baptist Church, 4007 Airline Drive, Bossier City.

Scott, 34, was an Orange County, Florida Deputy Sheriff. He was born July 12, 1979 in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated from Airline High School in 1997. He attended Louisiana Tech where he received his MBA. While there, he met and fell in love with Bridget Roseboom. A short time later they moved to the Orlando area. The couple soon married and, over the years, God blessed them with three beautiful children. After 8 years working in the banking industry, Scott, a man of deep faith, felt called to serve in law enforcement. He joined the Orange County Sheriff's Office in May of 2011 as a Deputy Sheriff on the midnight shift. When not at work, he was often in the park playing with his children or teaching Haley to ride her bike, all of which would be quickly posted to Facebook. He loved to travel and camp with his family. He enjoyed playing games, wrestling, reading, and nighttime prayers with his children. Scott was an avid LSU fan and was dedicated to God, family, friends and co-workers. He worked tirelessly to protect and serve the citizens of Orange County. He epitomized the inscription on his patrol vehicle, "Making A Difference". On February 11, 2014, Deputy Scott Pine was shot and killed while investigating reports of multiple car burglaries. He served his community with honor and dignity. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Bridget Pine, children, Haley, Ryker and Maddox Pine; mother, Donna Pine Robinson and husband, Dr. James Robinson of Bossier City, LA; father, Robert Pine and wife, Terry of Oklahoma; grandmother, Dolores Gibbs; sister, Angela Mills and husband, Chad; sister, Lori Lucas; brother, Charlie Pine; sister-in-law, Denise Purdy and husband, Tyler; brother-in-law, Jeremy Roseboom and wife, Stephanie; mother-in-law, Frances Taylor and husband, Johnny; father-in-law, Jeff Roseboom and wife, Mary; nieces and nephews, Hayden and Parker Mills, Seth Pine, Josie, Zoe and Layla Roseboom and Ethan and Eli Purdy and many other family members.

Because of Scott's love for all things LSU, we are encouraging memorial attendees to wear their LSU gear or purple and gold to celebrate the life of our hero. In memory of Deputy Scott Pine, we ask you to thank a law enforcement officer. When they put on their badge and walk out the door, there is no guarantee they will return home to their family.
