    Obituary:

Bernie Brothers Services Held At Fort Worth December 8th

Mr. Bernie A. Brothers, 67, residing at 3713 Laughton, Fort Worth, Texas, passed away December 7, 1972 at 1:30 p.m. He was driving his car in Seminary South, Ft. Worth, when he had a fatal heart attack. Evidently he was aware this was an unusual seizure because he pulled the car up to the curb, turned off the ignition, then slumped to the seat, where upon the ambulance found him, after being summoned by a passerby. Thus, his alertness probably avoided an accident.

Funeral services were held at the Highland Church of Christ, 6262 South Freeway, Ft. Worth, Saturday, December 9th, 1972, at 2:00 p.m. Officiating ministers were Mr. J. Woodie Holden and Mr. Loren Geiger. Burial was in Laurel Land Cemetery, under the direction of Ray Crowder Funeral Home.

Bernie was a devout Christian and radiated this spirit in his everyday existance. He was an ordained Deacon at the Highland Church of Christ, wherein he served loyally and fervently. He was born July 2, 1905 at Waco, Texas; moved to Seymour in 1907 where he married Vera Ellen Ross on June 5, 1926. to this union were born three children (one daughter, and two sons). This family moved to Vallejo, California in 1944 where Mr. and Mrs. Brothers each worked in the U.S. Navy Yard on Mare Island. They returned to Seymour in 1946. Later they purchased a farm and moved to Joshua, in 1952, after which Mr. Brothers purchased and operated a Washerteria, and moved to Forth Worth in 1957. Their recent home is located at 3713 Laughton, Ft. Worth. He was survived by his widow, Vera, a daughter, Mrs. Dolores Petty of Forth Worth, two sons, Eidsel and Royce of Joshua, and seven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Maudie Nix of Seymour, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brothers wealth of friends was manifested in the numerous amount of floral offerings, which were arranged on three large arches extending across the entire chancel. The sanctuary was filled to capacity with those many friends, expressing their deep sympathy to the family and indicating their love for this good fellowman.

The bereaved family find solace in these words:

"There is a Home that lies beyond -
    And past its golden door
Awaits the one who's now away
    Not lost-just gone before.
And in that Home that lies beyond
    The Master will prepare
A place for us, and when He calls
We'll meet our loved one there."

Burial will be in Seagraves Cemetery.

The youth, a driller's helper in the oilfields, was riding on the fender of a car driven by Maxine Palmer, 17, also of Seagraves, when the accident occured about 10:30 p.m. Another youth, Milton Palmer, 16, Seagraves, was riding on the other front fender at the time, according to investigating highway patrolmen - the Gaines County sheriff's office and city officers.

They said the car, owned and ridden in by Bernie Kuhn, 21, Denver City, was traveling about 20 miles an hour when High apparently fell. A front wheel passed over his legs according to the report, and he was rolled up under the vehicle before it could be stopped. The youth, conscious and talking, was taken to Seagraves Hospital by an ambulance summoned by one of the companions. He died of internal injuries, officers said, about midnight. An investigation of the fatality was underway today.

The victim, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.B. High of Seagraves, was born June 4, 1937 in Seagraves. He attended public schools here.

Sandy Ann Rowland passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2021

Sandy was born March 18, 1950 to the late R.C Phillips and Diamond (Pat) Brothers Phillips in Wichita Falls, TX.

She married the love of her life on March 6, 1971. The couple was married 46 years upon his passing March 10, 2017.

Sandy leaves behind to cherish her memory, son Christopher Rowland of HI, daughters, Traci Rowland of Springhill, FL, Donnette Lea Leffler and husband John of Lake Mary, Florida; seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Phillips; sisters, Brenda Odom (Tommy) of Wichita Falls, TX, and Patricia Smith (Sam) of Rosenberg, TX. She is also survived by her two fur babies Max and Sweetheart.

Sandy was a devoted wife, always up for the challenge of the moves they made during her husband's career. She was MS. GPS for every town they moved to before GPS was invented. She loved to entertain, especially New Years, Halloween, Easter, and Cinco de Mayo. She was fortunate to attend several super bowls, watch some of the best tennis players in the world, play a little tennis herself, enjoyed fishing on their boat "Options". She was a very smart shopper, always looking for a bargain. We will always cherish just being with her, especially when she would share one of her many "colorful" jokes. She was also well known for her generosity.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Halifax Hospice in Orange City, Michelle Saucier and her family for their love and support.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, January 10, 2022 in Oaklawn Cemetery.
