Obituary:

Willie Clement of Rayne died at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Lafayette Sanitarium. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, Feb. 21 at 9:00 in the St. Joseph Catholic church. Interment will be in the St. Joseph cemetery.

Mr. Clement, a farmer, was born Sept. 25, 1895 and was 62 at the time of his death.

Survivors are his wife, the former Mea Leger, two sons, Nolan and Norris of Rayne; two daughters, Mrs. Wilson Gaspard and Mrs. Clarence Dupuis of Rayne; seven grandchildren, three brothers, Walter and Elphie of Rayne, and B.B. Clement of Lake Charles, three sisters, Mrs. Elias Simon of Crowley, Mrs. Leland Clark of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Morris Henry of Galveston.

The body will remain at the Gossen Funeral Home until the hour of final rites.

Amy Clement, 8 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Clement, of the 2nd Ward, Lafayette parish, died Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock, after an illness of about 3 weeks, from what is thought to have been appendicitis.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock with interment following in the St. Joseph's cemetery.

Amy was the eldest of three children, and is survived by a younger sister and a brother.

She was a granddaughter of Deputy Sheriff A.A. Clement, and also had many other relatives here, with whom the Tribune joins in sorrow at this sad death.

RAYNE - Nola C. Gaspard passed away peacefully at Rayne Guest Home Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007.

Nola was a lifelong resident of rural Rayne. She was a devoted wife, mother, grand mother and a gifted seamstress.

Nola is survived by her three children, Wilfred Gaspard, Lawrence Gene Gaspard and his wife, Elaine, and Diana D. Stutes and her husband, Philip; and three siblings, Nolan Clement, Bertha C. Dupuis and Norris Clement and his wife, Merlise. Nola had seven grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Clement and Mea Leger Clement; her husband of 68 years, Wilson Gaspard; one daughter-in-law, Gloria LaPoint Gaspard; and one grandson, Shannon Gaspard.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the owners and staff of Rayne Guest Home for the love and wonderful care that Nola received during the nine years that she was a guest there. The family is also deeply grateful to Pat Richard and other Hospice staff members who provided for Nola and the family during her final months with us.

Visiting hours will be observed from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, and will continue from 8 a.m. until time of services at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007.

The funeral services will be in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, La. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery Number II.

If so inclined, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nola's honor to Hospice of Acadiana or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Rayne - A Mass of Christian Burial for Norris Joseph Clement, age 91, will be celebrated on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 11:00 AM in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel, Rayne. Father Aaron Melancon, pastor of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Duson will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 2, Rayne.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel, with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until service time in the funeral home.

Mr. Clement passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019 in a Rayne health care facility.

Mr. Clement was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, and he attended St. Theresa Catholic Church in Duson. He was a rice and cattle farmer for most of his life, and he retired as a school bus driver for Lafayette Parish. He was a member of Woodmen of the World. Mr. Clement enjoyed playing cards and going to the casinos. His greatest joy in life was being with and caring for his family.

Survivors include his daughters, Barbara Richard and husband, Ronald of Rayne, and Joann Monte and husband, Steve of Judice; grandchildren, Scott Richard, Ron Richard, Tonya Monte, Kendall Monte, and Kellie Roy; great-grandchildren, Ezra Richard, Raeanne Richard, Evan Richard, Paxton Gayon, Zach Duffy-Richard, Caity Richard, Silas Roy, and Kendra Monte; great-great-grandchildren, Skye Richard and Ayla Richard; and Godchild, Shirley Dore'.

Preceding Mr. Clement in death were his wife, Merlise Bearb Clement; parents, Willie Clement and Mea Leger Clement; siblings, Nola Gaspard and husband, Wilson, Bertha Dupuis and husband, Clarence, Nolan Clement and wife, Lena, and Willie Mae Clement; brother-in-law, Sabre Bearb; grandchild, Matthew Richard; and great-grandchild, Layla Monte.

Serving as pallbearers are Scotty Richard, Ron Richard, Kendall Monte, Steve Roy, Paxton Gayon, and Greg Dore'. Named as honorary pallbearers are Evan Richard, Ezra Richard, Silas Roy, and Zach Duffy-Richard.

Chiasson Infant, Twin, Buried Here

Funeral services for Geralyn Marie Chiasson, 26-day old twin, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Chiasson, Jr. of Rayne, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Gossen Funeral Home with Rev. Emery Labbe, pastor of St. Joseph church officiating.

Entombment followed in the Mausoleum in St. Joseph Cemetery, with Gossen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The baby girl died at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Methodist Hospital in Houston where she had been taken for treatment.

Survivors include the baby's parents and a twin brother, Todd Gerard Chiasson; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nolan Clement of Rayne; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Chiasson, Sr., Rayne; and a maternal great grandmother, Mrs. Alcee Blanchard, Rayne. Her mother was the former Patsy Clement.

The family has the sincere sympathy of Acadian - Tribune and a host of friends in the area on their tragic loss.
