    Cern, Sister Mary Dorothy Catherine, RSM A Sister of Mercy, died at Catherine's Residence, 2039 N. Geyer Rd., St. Louis, MO., on March 1, 2007. She was born on February 28, 1913 in St. Louis, MO., and was baptized Dorothy Catherine Cern. She was 94 years old. Sister Dorothy Catherine entered the Sisters of Mercy community at Webster Groves, MO., on September 7, 1938 and professed her first Vows on March 12, 1941. She received her B.S. in nursing education from St. Mary's College in Xavier, Kansas, in 1958 and her Registered Nursing Certificate for Missouri in 1952 and for Oklahoma in 1963 and Texas in 1969. Her ministry included Hospital Support Staff in St. Louis and Springfield, MO., and Fort Smith, AR. She was a registered nurse, then a nurse supervisor in Springfield and St. Louis, MO., and Oklahoma City, OK. She also ministered at Meacham Park Clinic, Mercy Center Conference/Retreat Center, Cathedral Towers and St. John's Mercy Medical Center until 1988 in St. Louis, MO., and until her retirement to St. Joseph Convent of Mercy from 1988 to 2006. Sister moved to Catherine's Residence in 2006. Sister is survived by her brother, Mel Cern, of St. Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to The Sisters of Mercy of the St. Louis Regional Community in support of the ministerial works to assist the poor, sick and uneducated.Services: The Wake will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on March 2, 2007 at Catherine's Residence followed by a Prayer Service at 6 p.m. The funeral Mass will be in the Chapel at Catherine's Residence on March 3, 2007 at 10 a.m. Sister will be buried at Calvary Cemetery following the Funeral Mass. A service of WHITE-MULLEN Mortuary.

    Melvin A. Cern, 95, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Saturday, July 30, 2016 at his residence. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Catherine Crnkovic and his sisters, Helen (in infancy), Eleanor, and Dorothy Catherine, RSM.

    Melvin served in the US Coast Guard and was a 4th degree member for over 50 years in the Knight of Columbus. He retired from the Division of Family Services after 14 years of dedicated service. He spent his final years in the loving care at the Little Sisters of the Poor community.

    Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. at Little Sisters of the Poor in St. Louis. Interment with full military honors at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.alexanderstlouis.com. Memorials are appreciated to Little Sisters of the Poor (St. Louis).
