    Robert N. Vaughn, age 65, died at St. Mary's Hospital Tuesday at 10:45 p. m. after an extended illness. His home was at 201 Elmwood Place. Mr. Vaughn had been a resident of Cairo for the past 17 years.

    He was born February 11, 1887 at Vienna and was married to Verna I. Crow, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Crow of Holcomb, Mo., on August 14, 1910. To this union, 15 children were born, 12 of whom are surviving.

    For many years, Mr. Vaughn was engaged in the insurance business in Dunklin County, Mo. Four years prior to his retirement, he was an employe of Federal Barge Line.

    Survivors include his wife, Verna; six daughters, Helen Niederkorn of Chicago, Virginia Moore of Wayne, Mich., Marie O'Shea of Lockport, Ill., Joan Thompson of St. Louis, Catherine Sapien of St. Louis, Ruth Vaughn of Chicago; six sons, Maj. Paul B. Vaughn of Pope Air Force Base, Ft. Bragg, N.C., Robert A. Vaughn of Kansas City, Mo., Billy G. and Carl B. Vaughn both of Cairo, Jimmy E. Vaughn of Metropolis and Jack A. Vaughn of Hopkins, Mo.; 24 grandchildren; his father, Marion F. Vaughn of Kennett, Mo.; several half-sisters and half-brothers and other relatives.

    The body is at Karcher Brothers Funeral Home where friends may call.

    Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Joe Caldwell officiating.

    Interment will be made in Thistlewood Cemetery.

    ROSELLE, ILL.-Helen Bernice Niederkorn, 83, formerly of Kelso, Mo., died at 7:25 p.m. March 28, 2000, at Alexian Brother Hospital Hospice House in Elk Grove Village.

    Born Sept 18, 1916, in Oran, Mo. daughter of the late Robert and Verna Crown Vaughn, she was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso.

    On May 18, 1935, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., she married Anton William Niederkorn who preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1986.

    Survivors include: two sons, Richard Niederkorn of Bellevile, Ill., and David Niederkorn of Jordan, Minn; five daughters, Betty Arient of Roselle, Janet Wilas of Dunedin, Fla., Donna Ricordati of McHenry, Theresa Badalof of Chicago and Kathleen Spencer of Orando, Fla. three brothers, James Vaughn of Peoria, Billie Vaughn of Florissant, MO. and Paul "Jack" Killam of New Market Iowa; two sisters, Marie Ollis of Crestwood, Ill., and Ruth Eaton of Jackson, Mo., and 27 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

    Two sons, on daughter, three brothers and six sisters also preceded her in death.

    Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, Mo. where Parish Prayers are scheduled for 6:30 p.m

    A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating.

    Burial will follow in the St. Augustine Cemetery at Kelso.

    Joan Reese, 69, of 2600 W. Fremont, formerly of Pinewood Health Center in Monmouth, died Friday, Jan. 28, 1994, at her home.

    Born Jan. 22, 1925, in Campbell, Mo., to Robert N. and Verna I. Crow Vaughn, she married Edgar F. Reese on Jan. 2, 1966, in St. Louis. He died Nov. 3, 1970, in Mapleton. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, two brothers and one sister.

    Surviving are four brothers, Robert Vaughn of Denver, Billie Vaughn of Peoria, Jimmie E. Vaughn of St. Louis, and Paul Killman of North Market, Iowa; and four sisters, Helen Neidkorn of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Marie Ollis of Joliet, Ruth Eaton of Jackson, Mo., and Virginia Moore of Wayne, Mich.

    Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.

    HERRIN - Jimmie E. Vaughn, 72, of Florissant, Mo. died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis.

    Mr. Vaughn was born on April 20, 1930 in Campbell, MO. to Robert Napolian and Verna Ivara (Crow) Vaughn. He married Lucille Webb on March 13, 1993 in Florissant.

    Jimmie was a self-employed residential plumber for more than fifteen years. He enjoyed his work. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Alton, and attended the Assembly of God in Florissant.

    Paul Edward Killam was born July 4, 1933 at Cape Girardeau, Mo., the son of Keith Edward and Bessie (Nicholson) Killam. He was united in marriage to Mary Baker, Aug. 14, 1949 at Clarinda. The couple were blessed with two children: Diane and Charles. He served in the US Military during the Korean War. Paul was the Des Moines Register District Manager for many years and farmed on the side.

    Paul passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Alegent Health in Corning, following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Edward and both parents.

    He is survived by his wife Mary of New Market; daughter Diane Kirsch and husband Dan of New Market; granddaughter Angie Tracy and husband Craig of Norwalk, and their children Colton and Austin, Tristan, Vivian, Kendra and Devon and granddaughter Michelle Schurman and husband Ken of Light House Point, Fla.

    Private services for Paul Killam, 81 of New Market, will be held at the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, Mo. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of SW Iowa - Corning, or SW Iowa Humane Society.

    Rosalee C. Schultz, 84, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, February 8, 2024. She was born July 18, 1939 to Paul and Sophia (Heider) Vaughn in Cape Girardeau, MO.

    Rosalee was united in marriage to Robert D. Schultz on January 23, 1960 in Belleville, IL. She spent several years working as a medical office manager, and was a member of the Blue Springs Assembly Church. She enjoyed sewing, butterflies, diamond art, and watching the gospel channel especially Jimmy Swaggart. Rosalee was a giving person who always put others needs before her own. She cherished spending time with her family especially getting everyone together for family meals.

    Mary Vaughn Luhman of Gaithersburg, Maryland made her journey to heaven on August 29, 2012. Mary was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on May 17, 1943 to Paul and Sophia Vaughn.

    Mary graduated from Mascoutah High School in Mascoutah, Illinois. She graduated, (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Maryland and continued her graduate studies at the University of Maryland.

    Mary was Vice President of Defense Programs, PLATO Learning Inc. As Contract Manager for the technology based Navy College Learning Centers, she personally opened most centers, hired and trained personnel and directly or indirectly supervised the performance of approximately 75 employees devoted to that Contract worldwide. Prior to employment at PLATO, Mary was the Director of Operations and Technical Support for Sylvan KEE Systems, Eastern Region Manager, Test Center Operations National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), and Eastern Region Manager, Certification Services, at Control Data Corporation.

    Actively involved in her community, Mary was appointed to the Police Advisory Committee of the Gaithersburg Police Department and helped with the Orchard Place HOA. She also enjoyed outings with the Red Hat Society and the Gaithersburg Senior Center.

    Mary enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, vacationing in Cape May, New Jersey. She loved animals, especially Yorkshire Terriers, and was a member of FONZ (Friends of the National Zoo).

    Mary Vaughn Luhman is survived by her daughter Cindy Luhman Cardone (Paul) of The Woodlands, Texas, Kelly Luhman Orsini (Benito) of McKinney, Texas; Jennifer Luhman Maslin (Scott) of Clarksburg, Maryland and Jon Luhman of Gaithersburg, Maryland. A very proud, "GranMary" to seven grandchildren: Alyssa, Anna, Ava, Emilia, Luca, Abby and Chloe. Mary is survived by her siblings: Rosalee Vaughn Schultz of Blue Springs, Missouri, Kay Vaughn Carroll of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Karen Vaughn O'Carroll of Chandler, Arizona and Ronald Vaughn of San Diego, California.     Deborah J. "Debbie" Shank, 55, of Jackson, Mo., born May 6, 1955, at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

    While she and Jim raised their three sons, Debbie worked part-time so she could be home with her family. Over the years, she did babysitting in their home and worked for Jackson R-2 Schools, Translectric Inc., Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the former Schaper's IGA, and Wal-Mart. When time permitted, she enjoyed doing crafts, especially needlepoint.

    Debbie's independence was snatched from her in 2000, when she was injured in a collision with a tractor-trailer. The accident promulgated her move to the Monticello House in 2003. Tragedy struck the Shank family again in 2006, when their son, Cpl. Jeremy R. Shank was killed in the line of duty in Iraq.

    In addition to her son, Jeremy, she was preceded in death by her parents, Paul B. and Sophia Heider Vaughn; a sister, Sharon Vaughn; and father-in-law, James Shank, Jr.

    Surviving are her loving family, James "Jim" Shank whom she married on Oct. 4, 1975, in Belleville, Ill.; two sons, Christopher "Chris" and fiancee Dana Formon of Piscataway, N.J., and A1C Nathan "Nate" of Dover Air Force Base, in Dover, Del.; a brother, Ronald Vaughn of San Diego, Calif.; four sisters, Kay (Joe) Carroll of Cape Girardeau, Karen (Tom) O'Carroll of Chandler, Ariz., Rosalee (Robert) Schultz of Lees Summit, Mo., Mary Vaughn-Luhman of Gaithersburg, Md.; mother-in-law, Evelyn Shank; and sister-in-law, Judi Shank, both of Belleville, Ill.

    Louis Anthony O'Shea, 47, of 1705 Rockingham Drive, Normal, a Pontiac Correctional Center employee, died at 2:31 a.m. yesterday (July 29, 1991) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

    His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at East Lawn-Brady Funeral Home, Bloomington, the Rev. Gerald T. Ward officiating. He will be cremated.

    Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

    He was born Sept. 26, 1943, in Cairo, a son of Louis E. and Marie Vaughn Ollis O'Shea. He married Patricia Farnham Dec. 28, 1979, in Pontiac. She survives.

    Also surviving are his mother, Joliet; one son, Sean Michael, Pontiac; one stepdaughter, Stephanie Steimle, 1705 Rockingham Drive, Normal; one brother, Gerald, Atlanta, Ga.; and two sisters, Nancy Quigley, Wilmington, and Pat Regis, Elwood.

    He was preceded in death by his father.

    Mr. O'Shea started with the Illinois Department of Corrections in 1967. Most recently, he was a clinical service supervisor at Pontiac Correctional Center.

    He received the Academy of Certified Social Workers award. He attended the American Academy of Human Sciences.

    He was a member of Alpha Chi national honor fraternity, Phi Gamma Mu national social sciences honor fraternity, Alpha Kappa Delta national sociology honor fraternity, Joliet Order of the Moose and Mid Illini Power Squadron.

    He received a bachelor of arts degree from Sam Houston State College in Houston and his master's from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

    Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Moosehart Fund, in care of the Bloomington Moose Lodge.

    Nancy A. Quigley, Age 54 of Braidwood, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, following a courageous battle with brain cancer.

    Born September 5, 1953 in Joliet, Nancy was a daughter of the late Louis and Marie Vaughn-O'Shea. She was a graduate of Lockport West High School with the Class of 1971 and lived in the Wilmington, Braidwood and Lockport areas. On April 4, 1987 Nancy married Richard Quigley in St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington. She was most recently employed as an office coordinator for the Department of Correction, and served at Statesville Prison and the Collins Street facility from 1979-2005. Nancy was also a partner with her husband, Richard at Rich's Lock and Key in Wilmington. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington, was an avid Cub's fan and loved to play bingo.

    Survivors include her loving husband, Richard; son, Brian (Christy) of Port St. Lucie, FL; two grandchildren, Jacob Slattery and Kylee Shea Quigley; one brother, Gerald (Margie) O'Shea of Georgia; one sister, Patricia (John) Regis of Elwood; her mother-in-law, Jean Quigley of Wilmington; two brothers-in-law, Steve (Becky) of Wilmington and Paul of Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Pat Lemke of Braidwood; nieces and nephews, Joshua, Travis, Lisa (Andy), Michelle (Brian), Kevin, Jennifer, Kaitlyn, Sean, Ronnie, Rachel and Russell; great-niece and nephews, Rylee, Bryce and Liam; and special friends, Helen Koltka of Wilmington and Carol Miller of Coal City; as well as numerous friends, including those from the Department of Corrections.

    Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Louis Anthony; sister-in-law, Norma Cohan and father-in-law, Ronald Quigley.

    Visitation and Video Tribute will be held Monday, September 8, 2008 from 4PM - 8PM at Reeves Funeral Home in Wilmington. Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday, September 9th at 10:00AM in St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet.

    Barbara Ann Doggett, 62, of Danville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 4:30 a.m. at Presence Covenant Hospital in Urbana.

    Barbara was born on May 6, 1953 in Cairo, Illinois to Robert and Hazel Stroud. Barbara married Richard Doggett on August 6, 1970, and he was taken from her all too quickly in July of 1983 in an automobile accident. Barbara was also preceded in death by her parents.

    Barbara went on to raise her five young children, Larry Doggett, Kimberly Hughes, Tammy Billot, Shawn Doggett and Melissa Richards (Eric), all of whom survive. She also leaves behind her thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Shirley (Bob) Davis.

    She attended Catlin schools, later going into the medical field where she was a Medical Records Clerk for several years.

    Funeral services for Charles Edward Killam, 17, of New Market, held May 10 in the New Market Community High School were conducted by Carl Cummings and Rev. Edward Osburn. Charles died May 8, 1971 near New Market, Enroute to his home. Interment was at the Hopkins Cemetery.

    Charles Edward Killam, son of Paul and Mary Baker Killam, was born March 3, 1954 in Maryville, Mo. He had lived in Taylor County Iowa all of his life with the exception of three and one-half years during the time his father was stationed in Savannah, Georgia, while in the service of his country.

    Charles had attended the New Market Community School since the beginning of his school years and he was a member of the high school junior class this year, where he was active in various school activities. He was especially fond of sports and in these he represented his school with honor and success. He was a member of the yearbook staff and he had been selected to attend Boys' State this year.

    Left to cherish memories are his parents, a sister, Diane and her husband Dan Kirsch; grandfather, Charles M. Baker and grandmother Bessie Killam; uncles, Vernon and Eldon Baker and families; other relatives; a close friend, Marla McAlpin, and his many school friends and acquaintances.
    When a lad he was baptized in the New Market United Methodist Church.

    Charles was a kind and loving son, brother, and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

    Cpl. Jeremy R. Shank, 18, of Jackson, Mo., born Feb. 29, 1988, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, while serving his country in Iraq.

    Cpl. Shank attended Jackson High School and the enlisted in the United States Army on May 31, 2005. He graduated basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga., as an infantryman. He was initially assigned to 1-21 Infantry on Jan. 30, 2006, before transferring to A Company 2-27 on March 26, 2006, where he served as a mortar man. He arrived with his platoon to Forward Operating Base McHenry on Aug. 23, 2006. His awards and decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Operation Iraqi Freedom Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal, the Expert Marksman Badge and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Jeremy was an avid hunter, a member of the National Turkey Federation, and was anticipating a trip home during deer season this November.

    He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, James Shank Jr.; maternal grandparents, Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs. Paul B. Vaughn; and maternal aunt, Sharon Vaughn.

    Surviving are his parents, James A. and Deborah J., nee Vaughn, Shank of Jackson, Mo.; two brothers, Christopher and Nathan Shank both of Jackson, Mo.; and fiancee, Ashley Hahn of Millersville, Mo.; his paternal family, grandmother, Evelyn Shank of Belleville, Ill., and aunt, Judi Shank of Belleville, Ill.; his maternal family, uncle, Ronald Vaughn of San Diego, Calif., four aunts, Kay (Joe) Carroll of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Karen (Tom) O'Carroll of Chandler, Ariz., Rosalee (Robert) Schultz of Lee Summit, Mo., and Mary Vaughn-Luhman of Gaithersburg, Md.

Vaughn Stoffel. He graduated in 1972 from Chaffee High School, where he ran track and played basketball. He was an avid collector of Coca-Cola merchandise and steins. He loved woodworking, crafts and listening to music. Michael worked with his father at Bill's Repair & Remodeling more than 30 years, retiring in 2009 because of ill health. He was a member of Eagles Aerie No. 3775 in Cape Girardeau 34 years. Survivors include a daughter, Laura (Brad) Goodman of Cape Girardeau; parents, Bill D. and Nancy J.
