| 2951 | Obituary: MRS. M. J. SWAIN, 91, DIES AT SON'S HOME Mrs. M. J. Swain, 91, died at the home of her son, at 450 St. Francis street at 11:40 last night after an illness of two weeks. The body will be sent to Titusville, Florida, where the funeral will be held Sunday afternoon. She will be buried by the side of her husband, C. J. Swain. She is survived by four sons: L. O. Swain, of Atlanta; W. H. Swain of Jacksonville; C. H. Swain, of Orlando; and J. W. Swain of Tallahassee. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Al Wright of Tallahassee and Mrs. John R. Walker, of Miami. Mrs. Crow was born nov. 6, 1890, in Dunklin county, Mo., and moved here 10 years ago. She was married June 21, 1908, to George H. Crow, who died in 1931. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Naomi C. Jones; one son, George E. Crow, and a granddaughter, Barbara Peggy Jones, all of 897 Jefferson avenue. Funeral will be held at Fawcett's funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev C. W. The funeral will leave from the home 10 miles south of Lake Charles at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for services at St. Margaret's Church in Hi-Mount at 3 p.m. The Rev. George A. Bodin, pastor, will officiate. | 2969 | Obituary: Mrs. McBride, 82 Dies Unexpectedly In Port Arthur Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Gertrude McBride, 82, of Rayne, were held Friday night in the Nunnelly-Stanley Chapel of the Chimes, Port Arthur, Tex., with the Rev. Jesse Thomson, associate minister of the Methodist Temple officiating. Mrs. McBride died unexpectedly at 2:50 am. Friday at the home of a friend, Mrs. W. T. Patrick. She had been in Port Arthur for 30 days as the guest of Mrs. Bert Davis. The body was sent to the Rebe Funeral Home in San Antonio for burial in a San Antonio cemetery. Mrs. McBride, the former Gertie Shoemaker, was a member of a pioneer family of Crowley. For the past 12 years she had made her home in the Ridge community with Mrs. John Riser and the Misses Zora and Dosha Smith. She was also related, by marriage, to the McBride family of Rayne. Survivors are two nephews, Dr. Harold C. Kelly of Bronxville, N. Y.,; and Fletcher Shoemaker of Mobile, Ala., and a niece, Mrs. Frieda Kelly of Washington, D. C. | 2980 | Obituary: MRS. P. A. E. COLLINS One of Bryan's Most Sainted Christian Characters Entered Into Rest. Mrs. P. A. E. Collins, widow of the late Thomas Benton Collins, died at her home in this city Monday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock, February 9, 1914, brief mention of which was made in The Eagle on the afternoon of her demise. Mrs. Collins had been ill for several months, and critically ill for some days. Her death was not unexpected, though being forewarned did not lighten the blow, nor make less keen the grief of those who were near and dear to her. Mrs. Collins was Mrs. Jennie McCulloch, and was born in Marshall County, Mississippi, November 20, 1847, making her in her sixty-seventh year at the time of her death. She came to Texas with her parents in 1856 when but a small girl, the family settling in this county, and she has resided here continuously since. Her residence in the county was more than half a century in duration, during which time she witnessed the remarkable changes occurring in this county, and saw the wilderness made to bloom and blossom as the rose. In 1878 she united with the First Methodist Church of this city, and from that day until the day of her death she exemplified in her daily walk and conversation the teachings of the Savior she followed and trusted. A sweeter Christian mother never lived in the county and her whole life was filled with charitable deeds and tender ministerings to others. Now that she rests from her labors, not only her children, but hundreds of others, rise up and call her blessed. Mrs. Collins was twice married, her first marriage being to Mr. Wiley Reed of this county, November 20, 1866. To them were born four children, two of whom are living, Mrs. Claude Mitchell of Hull, Texas, and Steve Reed of Palestine. After her first husband's death she remained a widow for several years, and in 1880 was married to the late Thomas Benton Collins, who has been dead for several years. Two children survive by this union, Miss Erma Collins and John Collins of this city. The bereaved children and other relatives have the profound sympathy of all in their great bereavement. The funeral was held from her late home at 2 o'clock this afternoon with interment following at Boonville cemetery. Her pastor, Rev. Glenn Flinn, conducted the funeral services. Many beautiful floral tributes from loving friends at home and elsewhere told in language more beautiful than words of the great love and tender affection in which she was held. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lenora Payne of Austin, Mrs. Rosalie Marek of Caldwell, and Mrs. Millie George of Kansas City, Mo., one son, F. J. Bednar of Caldwell; two brothers, Frank Drgac and Pete Drgac of Caldwell, and six grandchildren. Ross, 68, were to be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the 4th and Elm Church of Christ with Paul Rogers and Guy Caskey, Church of Christ ministers, officiating. Burial in Roscoe Cemetery was to be directed by Cate - Spencer Funeral Home. Mrs. Ross, longtime resident of the Sweetwater area, died Sunday at Simmons Memorial Hospital following a week's illness. Born Lucy Noble at Georgetown Oct. 23, 1893, she came to Roscoe as a small child and married Mr. Ross there on Oct. 27, 1911. He farmed in Jones and Nolan counties until his retirement in 1945 when the couple moved to Sweetwater. Survivors include her husband; seven sons, Elmer of Hitchcock, Romie of Austin, David of Texas City, Archie of Abernathy, Bennie and Max of Rosenburg and Dale of Sweetwater; three daughters, Mrs. May Warden, Mrs. R. J. Poe and Mrs. L. C. McFarlen, all of Sweetwater; 34 grandchildren, four great - grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur Noble of Corpus Christi and Will Noble of Lubbock; and two sisters, Mrs. Elmer Cantrell of Corpus Christi and Mrs. John Catchings of Abilene.
