| 3504 | Obituary: Services For Leo "Crip" Clement Held Funeral services for Leo "Crip" Clement, 82, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in Rayne Cemetery. Gossen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Clement died at the Rayne Guest Home at 2:25 a.m. Friday after a recent illness. He was a native of Acadia Parish and had spent his entire lifetime here. He had served as a member of the Rayne Volunteer Firemen's Association, and was widely known throughout this area as the former grounds keeper and bus driver for the Rayne Ricebirds when this community had a professional baseball team in the Evangeline League years ago. The late Lozen Leger served as presdent of the ball club, and "Crip" was an ardent fan, being not only grounds and club house custodian, but also a close friend and aide to the young men who came to Rayne as a farm of the Chicago White Sox to begin their professional careers. Baseball remained his interest, even after the Ricebirds were no longer in existence, and he retained many close friendships with his "boys" after they left Rayne. "Crip" vividly remembered those exciting Evangeline League days, and he had many stories to tell of road trips when he drove the team around "Hot Pepper" League circuit - as well as experiences here at home when baseball was "tops" in sports. He will also be remembered for the years he was a part-owner of the Farmers' Cafe, a wooden structure located near where Russell's Furniture Mart is now on South Adams Ave. We always numbered "Crip" among our most sincere friends, and his passing brings to an end an era of baseball enthusiasm and the comradeship of team support for the Ricebirds which brought about record percentage attendances for Rayne, then rated as the smallest town in professional baseball. Acadian-Tribune joins in the many expressions of sympathy and regret being voiced at his passing. Survivors include one son, Edward Clement of California; two brothers, Beauregard Clement and Louis Clement, both of Rayne, two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Hebert of Abbeville and Mrs. Otis Nunez of Port Arthur, Texas, and two grandchildren, Richard and Edward. Hebert of Texas City, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Rena Mae Sandoz of New Iberia; one brother, Louis Clement of Rayne; one sister, Mrs. Angelle Nunez of Port Arthur, Texas; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. His sudden death is a tragic loss, not only to his dear wife and other members of his family, but to the hosts of friends who had known and admired him throughout his entire lifetime. He was the son of the late Joseph Privat and Julie McBride Privat, representing two of the early pioneer families of this community. He was reared here and graduated from St. Joseph High School, later attending the SW La Vocational-Technical School in Crowley. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army, and upon his return to civilian life, went into business with his father operating Privat's Bakery and assisting with his father's widespread farming interests. After his father's death, Tony continued to operate the family bakery until recent months when it was closed. At the time of his death he was still managing the Privat farm. He was an active member of the Rayne Lions Club, Woodmen of the World, Rayne Council 1897, Knights of Columbus, Msgr George Mollo Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and Arceneaux Post No. 77, American Legion. Always friendly to everyone, with a genuine smile of happiness, and a ready wit and humor which endeared him to "grown-ups" and children alike, Tony was loved by all, especially by the younger members of the family who sensed his understanding and deep affection for each of them. May cherished memories remain of his kind, quiet and sincere personality. He was never too busy to take time for a visit with friends, and he always responded in his sincere, cheerful way which was a bright part of the day for everyone meeting him. Kind and thoughtful, his life was marked by consideration for others. He and his devoted wife had recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary and this was a time of particular happiness for them - with friends everywhere sharing the opportunity to express their admiration for this loved couple. His sudden and untimely death came as a great shock to the community where he will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. He is survived by his wife, the former Rita Trahan, one sister, Mrs. Edwin Ousse, of Rayne, the former Julie Privat; one niece and nephew in Rayne, Juliana Ousse and Edwin "Butch" Ousse, Jr., and 24 other nieces and nephews in this immediate area. to the wife whom tony loved so dearly - to Julie , and to her sweet family who were such a close and intimate part of his life, Acadian-Tribune and his hosts of friends everywhere join in expressions of sincerest sympathy. And he will long be remembered for his goodness, his sweet, kind manner and his deep and abiding friendship for his fellowman. He will be remembered in the smile of a child and the gentle beauty of a quiet summer day - and in the brotherhood of man... "to have a friend is to be one" was Tony's way of life, and he lived the beautiful Christian concept day by day - a lasting and perfect memorial to a dear, lovely person. We all cherish that memory. | 3529 | Obituary: Shana Renee (Shirley) Ogden January 16, 1971 - January 26, 2023 Shana Renee Shirley Ogden, 52, of Bryan, Texas passed away January 26, 2023 peacefully surrounded by family and friends. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 P.M., Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Reliance Baptist Church. Shana was born in Bryan, Texas on January 16, 1971 to Gregory and Linda Shirley. Shana lived in Bryan within the Reliance Community for most of her life. Shana's achievements have been rewarded with trophies but by our appreciation of her talent to give every bit of herself in her work, her gatherings, and her contributions to others. Shana truly had a heart bigger than Texas. She was a sister to everyone and often paid forward the blessings she was bestowed with. Shana was a daughter, sister, niece, mom, but she was so proud to become a Nana! Shana was the life of any gathering with her huge smile and her laugh. She loved to be with her family and friedns and made sure to let them know how much she loved them. Birthdays, Christmas, Valentine's, no matter the occasion, she always had a little gift to give everyone. She always had others in her thoughts and ejoyed making others smile. Shana loved to sing karaoke and she enjoyed riding her motorcycle when she was able to do so. Shana's motto was: Hugs, Love & Smiles Shana was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2017. As treatments made it harder for her to be too far from home, she found a group of friends in our neighborhood and the "porch pals" were formed. We spent many evenings laughing, crying and helping each other through the things that life threw our way. Every loss and every victory, we supported each other. Shana has had many struggles in her battle with ovarian cancer over the past six years. Some of that time was spent fighting side by side with her mother who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2020. In 2021, Shana also lost her one and only son, Cameron during her battle with cancer. She still managed to fight her own battle with strength and dignity. Although she has lost her battle, she has truly won the war. She is no longer bound by this worls and the suffering she had endured. Shana has made her final journey HOME and is with her loved ones that have gone before her. Shana was preceded in death by her son, Cameron Ogden; mother, Linda Shirley; great-niece, Arianna Battelle; and her grandparents. His colleagues remember him as a reliable and hardworking individual who brought both professionalism and levity to the workplace. Shawn's intelligence and humor were matched by his diverse interests. An avid player of Dungeons and Dragons, he brought creativity and strategic thinking to every campaign. His passion for gaming extended to the virtual realms of God of War, where he embarked on epic quests and adventures. Shawn's love for darts was well-known, and he could often be found at the oche, throwing precise shots and sharing laughs with friends. An avid reader, he was always ready to explore new worlds through the pages of a book or to entertain others with a well-timed joke. Those who knew Shawn will remember him as a smart, funny, and intelligent man-a great son, brother, father, and grandfather. His presence was a source of stability and joy in the lives of his family and friends. His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known him. | 3542 | Obituary: Shelly Michelle Walser Jetsel May 26, 1971 - October 25, 2021 Shelly Michelle Walser Jetsel, 50, of Boise, passed away October 25, 2021. Shelly Michelle Walser Jetsel came into the world on May 26, 1971, in Dallas Texas bringing much joy to her parents Robert Lee Walser Jr and Darlene Blankenship Walser and her older brother Wes Walser. She spent her childhood and youth in Grand Prairie, TX where she had many friends at school and in her church community. Shelly graduated from South Grand Prairie High School in May 1989. Shelly met Kyle Jetsel at an LDS Young Adult Dance and that meeting was the beginning of a unique and REAL true-life love story to be envied. It was more than a romance - it was a friendship and partnership that was meant to be. They were sealed in the Dallas Texas temple on June 1, 1991. Those who knew Kyle and Shelly witnessed the special relationship they nurtured through the years. They were a match made in Heaven. Kyle and Shelly complemented each other in every way and their love and support for each other was a joy to witness and an example to all who knew them. They began their life together in Grand Prairie, Cedar Hill, and Red Oak Texas. After having four sons, Shelly longed for another child. She and Kyle discussed having another baby. And sure enough, when she went to her first doctor visit, the doctor announced there was not one, but two little ones - TWINS - on the way. Kyle's comment to the doctor: "That's not funny," and the doctor's answer: "We don't kid about stuff like this." A few months later, they welcomed another son and their first daughter into the family. Shelly got her long-awaited daughter and then knew her family was complete. To know Shelly was to love her. Shelly's kind and gentle demeanor drew people to her. Shelly carried a serenity and calmness that was refreshing in today's world and put others at ease. Her joy for life made people want to be around her. Her smile and laugh were contagious. She would often say, "You gotta do what cha gotta do," confidently leading the way in doing the right thing, no matter the challenge she faced. Shelly blessed the lives of anyone who knew her in too many ways to count. She served others in many capacities in her church community as she shared her many talents in Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society and Young Women's organizations. Shelly had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The greatest asset Shelly shared with those around her was through her example as she exemplified the qualities of Christ in all she did. Shelly has always been a quiet force for good. Shelly's eye for beauty and her extraordinary talents and creativity blessed the lives of those who knew her. She started a business called Green Apple Boutique that drew in other women who created beautiful things and helped them share their talents as well. Shelly had a vast collection of items she made and sold over the years. She loved repurposing just about anything from furniture to an old rake handle that hangs on the wall of her beautiful home and is used as a key rack. She was a gifted seamstress and would sew pillows and draperies and much more to sell. Creating beauty and helping others sell their creations brought Shelly true joy. Shelly's greatest joy and accomplishment in life was her family. She adored her five sons and one daughter. Family meant everything to her. She loved and served her children daily, always setting a good example for them of the kind of people they should strive to be. Kyle and Shelly worked hard to successfully create a family unit where their children could thrive and where love and support were constant. Shelly's influence on all who knew her will be felt forever. This valiant and cherished Daughter of God ended her mortal journey on October 25, 2021 and returned to the arms of our Heavenly Father. Our lives are better from having associated with her. We will miss her terribly, but we will hold our memories of her close to our hearts and smile when we think of her. We will move forward with the absolute knowledge that we will be able to see her again someday. Shelly is survived by her husband Kyle Jetsel; their children, Alek (Carrie), Zak (Danika), Erik, Ricky, Chloe and Jack Jetsel; parents, Bobby and Darlene Walser; brother, Wes (Marilyn); niece, Allyse Walser; nephew, Robbie Walser; brother-in-law, Kurtis Jetsel, Kreg Jetsel, Keath Jetsel; sister-in-law, Krystal Singleton; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
