705 Obituary:

Died: On the 26th of September, 1866, at the residence of his father, Mr. J.B. Campbell, in this parish, WILLIE A. CAMPBELL, aged 9 years, 8 months and 19 days.

"Kind parents, it is hard for you to surrender the objects most cherished in life; yet, the decree of Him who doeth all things well, has gone forth: "Dust thou art and unto dust shalt thou return;" and you can but bow in meek submission, with a christian fortitude, to His dread alternative. Little WILLIE is gone! One of your dearest household jewels has been snatched by the ever unerring hand of death, from the family circle, to adorn a brighter sphere than this. Before realizing the sterner duties of life--or walking alone the rugged way--an All-wise Providence, has transplanted WILLIE'S genial soul from this, to realms of blissful immortality. With the implicit faith of a child, he quietly folded his arms in sleep to awake amid the realities of a happier and better world. He is--
"Gone with the wealth of love which dwelt
Heart-kept, with holy thoughts and high--
Gone, as as the clouds of evening melt
Beyond the dark and solemn sky."

710 Obituary:

Don't cry for me.
I will be okay.
Heaven is my home now,
and this is where I'll stay.

Don't cry for me.
I'm where I belong.
I want you to be happy
and try to stay strong.

Don't cry for me.
It was just my time,
but I will see you someday
on the other side.

Don't cry for me.
I am not alone.
The angels are with me
to welcome me home.

Don't cry for me,
for I have no fear.
All my pain is gone,
and Jesus took my tears.

Don't cry for me.
This is not the end.

729 Obituary:

Doris Sanders, of College Station, TX, passed away November 20, 2005. She was born December 9, 1917 in Grimes County.

Mrs. Sanders died Sunday at home on Carter Lake surrounded by her beloved husband, daughter and grandchildren. She was a life-long resident of Bryan and College Station and was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Doris was greatly loved by all who knew her and touched the lives of people around the world with her generosity, compassion, sense of justice and faith. She was known for her conviction in God, her keen sense of humor and endless energy for motivating people to live their life to the fullest and to love the Lord, Jesus Christ. She easily brought people into her home and into her heart. She cared for people in a way that made each person feel special, honored and valued. She cared enough to want to know the names of her nurses, EMTs and hospice staff (who took such wonderful care of her) and the names of their family members.

Doris was wholly devoted to her family and was never far from the side of her husband, Ray. Doris and Ray, wonderful as business partners and life partners, loved their farm and working cattle together. She made the farm a family gathering place where as many memories as biscuits were made. She loved to travel, read, plant trees, garden, cook, and engage her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in arts and crafts. She loved gospel music and she loved to hear her daughter sing. She loved animals, especially birds and dogs. She laughed easily, enjoyed a good story and was always ready to tell one. She inspired her grandchildren to love the natural world and to know that ever tree had a purpose. She was like an oak tree with huge expansive limbs that provided shade and protection for all of us who stood under her canopy. Those who knew her would describe her as a woman of great religious faith, intense loyalty, courage, intelligence, and fiercely protective of those she loved. Those of us who lived with her knew her as a weaver, one who wove love and compassion throughout her family tapestry.

Our lives are richer and stronger because of this dearly loved woman...my wife...my mother...my mother-in-law...our grandmother...our great-grandmother...our aunt...our mentor...our teacher and guide...our support system...our storyteller...our advisor...our encourager...our healer...our pioneer...our dear friend...our matriarch...our heart.

Doris Sanders was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Zalenski; her parents, James E. and Lela Vincent; two brothers, James and Curtis Vincent. She is survived by her husband, J. Ray Sanders; her daughter, Dr. Ann Pye Shively and husband, Dr. Michael Shively of Springville, Utah; five grandchildren, Dori Petersen and husband, Matthew Petersen, of Nibley, Utah, Dr. Lori Pye of Channel Islands, California, Jim Pye and wife, Dawn Pye of College Station; Jeffrey Shively and wife, Lindsey Shively of Provo, Utah; Sheri Myers and husband, Jay Myers of Provo, Utah; and six great-grandchildren.

The celebration services of Doris' life are set for Friday, November 25 at 10:00 am at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Dr. Bruce Wood and Dr. Rick Rigsby will officiate. David served for over 40 years at UNT, where, aside from teaching American literature in the Department of English, he also held the positions of Associate Dean, Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Vice Provost and then Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and finally as Special Assistant to the President for the Humanities. He was awarded a Senior Fulbright Fellowship to teach at the University of Wurzburg in Germany where he taught courses in English and American literature, of which he had many fond memories of the German students and culture.

David authored books on Mark Twain, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe, and humorists Edgar Wilson (Bill) Nye and Henry Wheeler Shaw (Josh Billings). In addition to the 6 books, he wrote numerous articles on American Literature, especially American humor and was president of the American Humor Studies Association. Dr. Kesterson was also a major co-founder of the Nathaniel Hawthorne Society, served as its first president, and edited and produced the Hawthorne Society Newsletter. He enjoyed his many travels to visit the places where major American authors lived, wrote and died, including but not limited to, Hannibal, Missouri; Elmira, New York; Hartford, Connecticut; Hawaii; and Heidelberg, Germany. He was also a member of Who's Who in America.

Upon his retirement in 2007 as Professor Emeritus at the University of North Texas, David continued to pursue his interests of reading, as well as his other interest of music where he and his wife of thirty one years, Cheryl, enjoyed the excellent performances of the UNT College of Music. Little known to many is the fact that he was an excellent percussionist in the Springfield, Missouri, symphony and taught drumming to help pay his way through undergraduate college. Along with his enjoyment of reading and music, he delighted in the pleasures associated with walking, biking, and playing with his granddaughters. He actively followed his favorite baseball team, the Kansas City Cardinals, which he had watched even as a young boy growing up in Missouri.

In addition to his wife, Cheryl (Monk) Kesterson, David leaves behind his sons, Aubry Todd Kesterson, (Tracey) and Chad Russell Kesterson, (Kelly). His four beloved granddaughters, Haley Renee Kesterson, Avery Ann Kesterson, and twins, Arden Brae Kesterson and Erin Rae Kesterson. 741 Obituary:

Dr. Kenneth Lloyd "Ken" Coon, Sr., age 87 of Hot Springs, Arkansas, formerly of Mountain View, Arkansas, died on Tuesday, December 8, 2022, at his home.

Coon was a member of the School Avenue Church of Christ, of Mountain View, Arkansas, a Veteran of the United States Air Force and a graduate of the University of Arkansas. He was married to Sue Coon and had two children, Catherine and Ken, Jr.

Ken had a successful membership in the Arkansas Jaycees where he served in a number of positions at both the local and state level. He was president of the organization in 1971-72 when he was named one of the five outstanding state presidents in the nation. He touched many lives through his Jaycee service and commonly had people tell him of his positive impact on their lives.

Ken Coon made a major contribution to the establishment of the two-party system in Arkansas. He worked tirelessly for some twenty years to build the Republican party. He ran for office three times - Governor in 1974, Lt. Governor in 1972 and Congress in 1996. Although he was not a victor in these races, he understood that the Arkansas GOP would have to run credible candidates repeatedly, build gradually up to a 51% vote until it could win consistently. Ken understood the nature of this challenge and was willing to sacrifice in the short run for the success of a two-party state in the long run.

In addition, to his public office races, he also served in numerous party offices. He was the hired Executive Director from 1972-1976; was a County Chairman, District Chairman, and, finally, State Chairman from 1988-1990. Ken was one of the key players in building the modern Republican Party in Arkansas.

As a Psychologist and Counselor, Coon built a successful management consulting practice serving businesses in Central Arkansas. He offered consulting, training and counseling services to CEO's and owners of both small and large businesses alike. As a Professor at Webster University, he taught Human Resource Development and was a pioneer in Arkansas for new methods of improving the effectiveness of individuals, teams and organizations. As an Executive Coach, he quietly helped several of Arkansas' prominent families and corporations to achieve their goals and grow their businesses to the next generation.

When not busy in business and civic endeavors, Coon spent time developing his farm to benefit his family. Dr. Coon was a builder. He sought to improve whatever entity in which he was involved whether it was his family, his business, client's business or civic organizations. Many individuals and organizations are better because he passed their way.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway followed by Funeral Services at 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at the School Avenue Church of Christ, 213 School Avenue, Mountain View, Arkansas, followed by a graveside service at 1:00pm on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Indian Village Cemetery south of Calhoun, Louisiana.
