1529 Obituary:

Joyce Marie Bonin was born on January 2, 1929, in Thibodaux, Louisiana. She passed away on January 5, 2024, in Lone Tree, Colorado. An intimate memorial service for family members is planned for a later date.

Joyce was the wife of the late Louis Hill Bonin, Jr., the daughter of the late Robert Lee Doucet and Myrtle Lauve Doucet, and the sister of the late Evelyn Doucet and Patricia Doucet Broussard, all of Lafayette, LA. She is also predeceased by her granddaughter, Meredith Boehm, of New Orleans, LA. Joyce is survived by her three children, her daughter, Ann Elizabeth Bonin Kiefer of New Orleans, LA, and her two sons, Marc Louis Bonin of Charleston, SC, and Paul Edward Bonin (Ann Laughrin), of Lone Tree, CO; and four grandchildren, Margot Messina, of New Orleans, LA, and Hill Bonin (Anna), Hayes Bonin, and Ellis Bonin, all of Lone Tree, CO; and her sister, Joan Chatelaine (Ronnie), of Baton Rouge, LA.

Joyce grew up in Lafayette, LA. She graduated from Mount Carmel Academy in 1947, and matriculated to the University of Southwest Louisiana. She met Hill on a blind double date with his brother, who was attending USL at the time. A year later, on December 26, 1948, Joyce and Hill married and moved to New Orleans. They started their family in 1951, and had their three children there.

Joyce's life adventure followed the path of Hill's executive career, and throughout, her life flourished as the rhyme to his reason. Joyce artfully managed the many facets of her life, as a wife, mother, daughter and sister, friend and colleague, with her special grace and charm. She had a ready smile and a loaded laugh with gusto. She was smart and curious, enthusiastic to engage, had impeccable style, a lively sense of fun and a zest for life. From volunteering with Vista in Pittsburgh; to immersion in the arts and culture living in Japan; to leadership and volunteerism in the nascent democracy in Korea; from art studies at Chatham College in Pittsburgh, to serving as a docent at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC; to the leadership and Presidency of The Hospitality and Information Service of Meridian House, Washington, DC, a diplomatic service for foreign families sponsored by the US State Department. Upon her return to Lafayette in 1982, Joyce established herself as a successful real estate agent; she was a founding member of the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana, serving as a board member and President; and a board member of the Hilliard Museum of Art, Lafayette, LA. She was devoted in her Catholic faith, a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a member of the Theresians.

Joyce's adventure was compelling and fulfilling, often remembered by thoughtful gestures of kindness and giving along the way, always extended with a generous heart and optimistic spirit. Her life was lived well, and ultimately savored with a nice dinner and a fine wine, preferably a pinot noir. Joyce was much beloved and she will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for Alzheimer's Association in Joyce Bonin's name.

1530 Obituary:

Joyce Pertl Thatcher passed away peacefully in her sleep at home next to her beloved husband, Scott, of 52 years, at the age of 79.

Joyce was born on November 19, 1943, at home on the family farm in Caldwell to Stanley and Annie (Sebesta) Pertl. She grew up in a Czech family with five siblings: Clarence, Melvin, Stanley, Naomi and her twin brother, Joel.

Joyce spent her childhood becoming familiar with the farm life. Although it wasn't her ideal chore, on hot days, she would help pick cotton in the fields filling the heavy cotton sack. She loved gathering the eggs out of the chicken coup and would hide them under the bed to avoid them being crushed by her twin brother, who might have gotten a little rambunctious here and there. Her very favorite thing to do would be to crawl up and take a nap next to her Grandma Sebesta, who she would translate for Czech to English when they would go into town.

Joyce was a charter member of First Assembly of God in Caldwell, Texas and would become the church pianist where she would have many requests to play hymns, specifically Mansion Over the Hilltop, and sing with her brother, Joel.

Joyce graduated from Caldwell High School in 1962 and was employed by the local drug store in Bryan. She eventually went to work for the Tectonophysics Department at Texas A&M University. She was used as an advertising model for a few publications within the department she worked for. Her firstborn, Jeff, blessed her life in 1967. On a fun night out with her friends in 1969, she caught the eye of a handsome young man in a lime green Barracuda that pulled up next to the green Maverick that Joyce was in. It was then that Scott Thatcher told his buddy, "I'm going to marry that girl". After an innocent chase through town, Scott eventually met Joyce and they started dating. During their courtship, Scott joined the Air Force and left for basic training in San Antonio and received orders to be stationed in San Bernardino, California. Upon receiving a 1 week leave, Scott called Joyce and told her that he was coming back to marry her and they married on August 11, 1971 and left for San Bernardino the next day. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1972, Scott and Joyce left California to begin their life in Texas.

Joyce once again secured a job with the Texas A&M University system working for the Vice President of Student Affairs. Scott and Joyce welcomed their first daughter, Alise in 1976, their second daughter, Kristal, in 1978 and their surprise baby girl, Jana in 1979. Joyce finally made the decision to become a homemaker, running the daily affairs of managing her bustling household. She taught music at Calvary Baptist Church for elementary students, led neighborhood bible lessons at the community park for the neighborhood friends and was involved as a Missionette teacher at College Heights Assembly of God in Bryan. Joyce was PTA room mom for all her children and supported her girls through all the years of cheer, dance and school functions. She loved attending a weekly ladies Bible Study and lunch with her friends. She gained two sons-in-law when Alise married Brad Levens and Kristal married Kevin Beachy. Joyce became a grandmother in 2003 when her first grandson, Braeden, was born. Her love for her grandchildren was multiplied by 5 when Danica, Landon, Carter, Brenham and Adaline were born. Her grandkids were the joy of her life. She was a dedicated caregiver of her diabetic son, Jeff and definitely knew how to care for him better than any physician.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Annie (Sebesta) Pertl, her siblings: Clarence, Melvin, Stanley, Naomi (Pertl) Rathjen and Joel Pertl and her son, Jeffrey Todd Thatcher. She is survived by her husband, Scott Thatcher, her daughters Alise (Thatcher) Levens and spouse Brad Levens, Kristal (Thatcher) Beachy and spouse Kevin Beachy, Jana Thatcher, and her grandchildren, Braeden Levens, Landon Levens, Danica Beachy, Carter Beachy, Brenham Beachy and Adaline Beachy.

1541 Obituary:

Judith Arlene Tannery passed away from complications developed after her prolonged case of COVID-19 on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 in Cypress, Texas at the age of 81.

Judith (aka Judy Roiz and more recently Judith Murray), the only child of Dick Banks Tannery and Barbara Inez Black was born in Houston, Texas on September 28, 1939. Judy had four children, Dawn, Phillip, Jason and Joanna and was blessed with 17 grandchildren and many other close family members and friends that she loved dearly.

Those that knew Judy know that she had many talents. She loved to sing and dance and all things music. She started playing piano at an early age and sang on KTRH John Wesley Graham's radio show as teenager every Saturday. Her favorite songs to sing were Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Elvis Presley's Baby What You Want Me to Do. She kept singing throughout her life in the church choir and in everyday life. She was known to break into song and even singing out her children's names when calling out to them.

Judy loved any and all flowers and grew beautiful roses that were the envy of the neighborhood. She loved gardening and all things arts and crafts including painting, pastels, crochet, embroidery, beauty products, perfume and jewelry. She became an accomplished business woman in the beauty and retail business and spent the last several years before her retirement serving her local church.

Judy's family is thankful to have been able to all gather for her 80th birthday celebration in the fall of 2019 as it was the last time she was with all four of her children and many of her grandchildren and friends.

Judy is now with her daughter Dawn, who preceded her in death in 2020, her beloved father tragically taken in an automobile accident and her mother, Nez. May they rest in peace for eternity together.

For those attending Judy's Celebration of Life we ask that you honor Judy's love of beautiful colors and flowers and wear your brightest spring outfit. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed at https://youtu.be/EvwY4z467Zg

1542 Obituary:

Judyth Ann Hoffpauir Cole, 70, of Orange, left this world and returned to her Lord and Savior's loving arms on May 7. She fought a long battle with cancer, but is now happily reunited with her family in Heaven, where she will great us all with a big smile one day.

Judy was born May 2, 1946, in Beaumont, to John Emery "Joe" Hoffpauir and Alice Marie (Smith) Hasson. She by no means had a perfect, easy life. Very often times were tough, sometimes tougher than anyone should've had to deal with. But she always pulled through, thanks to her never ending faith and the help of her God. He got her through more things that we can list here, but she always believed in him, and even in her darkest times, she was ministering to others. Constantly sharing her faith with anyone she met, she touched many people with her testimony and her unrelenting belief. She was a member of a number of churches during her life, each one blessed to know her, but her final church was Christian Fellowship Worship Center in Beaumont. She loved her church dearly, and hated any time she had to miss attending.

The only thing Judy loved as much as the Lord was her family. She loved them more than words can say. Besides the Lord, she considered her daughter, Betty Jo, to be her life and love and she never failed to show that. She sacrificed so much for her, and gave her all that she could ask for. Judy showed her daughter how to be brave, how to be full of love and grace and how to rely on the Lord for strength at all times and she will spend the rest of her life trying to make her mama proud. Judy, or "Nan" as her siblings knew her, was born the first of 10 brothers and sisters total between the Hasson and Hoffpauir sides. She considered herself blessed to have the family that she was given and she loved them all very much. She was there for them whenever they needed, with a prayer or a word of encouragement or a shoulder to cry on. She was a rock that never faltered. While her family grieves from this deep loss, they can be reassured with the knowledge that Judy is finally home, at peace, rejoicing in Heaven's choir.

Judy constantly served the Lord by helping others, whether that was through sharing his word or sharing her talents. A fabulous cook, she collected recipes (a house full, as her daughter will attest to) and would always bring a covered dish to church gatherings or family reunions. In her younger days, she was a baker for the family, making elaborate and beautiful birthday cakes and wedding cakes for anyone who needed them. Over the years, she led Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible Schools, church plays and performances and coordinated anything that was needed at her churches. Judy also shared the Lord through music, singing in church choirs and visiting nursing homes to sing for those who needed their spirit lifted. She sang specials in church, using her voice to praise the Lord, and while she played other instruments in her youth, most people knew her as "The Spoon Lady." She played the spoons every chance she got, carrying them always in her purse just in case an upbeat song came on at church or even a family reunion.
