4011 Obituary:

Wilburn A. "Mickey" Crnkovic
March 12, 1933 - January 28, 2026

Wilburn A. "Mickey" Crnkovic passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was born on March 12, 1933, in Zwolle, Louisiana, to Ed Slavko and Frazine Ebarb Crnkovic. Mickey lived a life marked by service, sportsmanship, and deep devotion to family.

A proud graduate of Zwolle High School, Mickey attended Northwestern State College for two years before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After serving his country for two years, he returned to Northwestern to complete his education. During his time there, he played basketball for two seasons, earning recognition as Team Captain, Most Valuable Player, and All-American Honorable Mention in his senior year. In 2004, he was honored with induction into the Northwestern Basketball Hall of Fame, a testament to his talent, leadership, and lifelong love of the game.

Mickey dedicated his professional life to teaching and coaching at Florien High School, where he inspired generations of students in History, Civics, and Adaptive Physical Education. His commitment to his students extended well beyond academics; he encouraged them to work hard, believe in themselves, and carry integrity into everything they did. As a coach of both the boys' and girls' basketball teams, he built programs rooted in discipline, teamwork, and respect. His influence on the court and in the classroom left a lasting legacy in the Florien community.

In retirement, Mickey embraced the outdoors - hunting, fishing, and tending to his beloved purple hull peas and watermelons. He had a gift for gathering family under the friendly pretense of helping with the harvest, always appearing with a watermelon tucked under his arm and a reminder to save the seeds. His playful spirit and clever tricks became legendary among his nieces and nephews, who remember him with deep affection, laughter, and stories that will be retold for years to come.

Mickey was a man of honesty, generosity, and warmth. He cherished time spent with family at the home place, often grilling ribs or steaks and sharing stories that brought everyone a little closer. His presence was a source of joy and connection, a steady comfort to all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Steve, Joseph, Johnny, Frank, Pete, Helen Crnkovic Byers, and Lois Crnkovic Sava. He is survived by his sister, Josephine Crnkovic Jones, and his brother, Donald Crnkovic, and his wife, Linda, along with numerous nieces and nephews - and, of course, his favorite niece?

Monsignor Rothell Price. Burial will take place at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana at a later date.

4029 Obituary:

William Bryan Sledge
April 30, 1975 - October 22, 2024

William Bryan Sledge, better known as Bryan, or Coach Sledge, Age 49, of Midland, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Nalley -Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Mid-Cities Church, 8700 TX-191 in Midland. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm at Trinity Memorial Park, 6900 US-87 in Big Spring.

Bryan was born on April 30th, 1975, in Big Spring, TX to Tammy Davidson and William (Bill) W. Sledge III.

Bryan was all about his girls - wife Imiley and daughter Suri. He was very involved in everything these two did. He traveled with Suri for Club Volleyball and watched all her games at Midland Classical Academy. Bryan loved to serve the MCA volleyball team by working the position of "Home Guard" at Suri's games. When he was not at Club Volleyball, he went to every single Barrel Race and Rodeo to see his wife, Imiley, compete. He loved grooming the horses, and recording Imiley's runs, always ready to video every single run. Bryan also loved being on his tractor - he was always on it and loved working the ground for the barrel races. He even posed as "The Grinch" one year, in a family Christmas photo on the tractor with his girls.

In addition to all this, earlier in his career, Bryan coached numerous sports for Midland High School.

Bryan also loved his niece and nephew - twins! And the twins' little baby brother! He loved to take the twins in the "hooptie" and sing songs from the movie "Frozen!" "Let It Go" was the all-time favorite!

Bryan was also a dog lover, and he and his wife Imiley bought a dog together. He named it Brandon and put it in a baby carrier to tote around with him at the barrel races. Three of his NINE dogs - Brandon, Wolf and Maya - especially loved to ride around with him in his tractor.

Bryan also loved his Donkeys, and sometimes the Llama! There was never a dull moment on the "Barkin' Ranch".

All this to say, Bryan loved his family, his animals and life! He will be greatly missed.

Bryan is survived by his wife Imiley McKay Sledge, and his daughter Suri Alyse Sledge. He is also survived by his father William (Bill) W. Sledge III and stepmother Vickie Sledge.

Bryan is preceded in death by his mother Tammy Davidson.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards the responding medics and Midland Memorial Hospital and their dedicated staff - especially Leyla McCoy. They would also like to thank all the family members and friends who have shown their love and tender care for them throughout.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fix West Texas from where Bryan adopted several cats and dogs.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.

"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, So he put his arm around you and whispered "Come with me". We watched you suffer and saw you fade away, although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A Golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove that he only takes the best. It's lonesome here without you, we miss you more each day, Life doesn't seem the same since you've gone away; When days are sad and lonely and everything goes wrong we seem to hear you whisper "Cheer up and carry on". Each time we see your picture, You seem to smile and say Don't cry, I'm in God's keeping, We'll meet again some day".
