3205 Obituary:

Pioneer Woman Of Rayne Dies Sunday

St. Joseph Catholic Church at 9 a.m., Monday, March 23, Father H. Lerschen officiating. during his sermon, he spoke of the many virtues which Mrs. McBride possessed, stressing her motherhood and life of love for her children, which was made the more impressive by the tear stained faces of these same "girls and boys" who surrounded her during the funeral. At the close of the last rites, the funeral procession continued on to St. Joseph's cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest in the family vault.

Pallbearers included Mrs. McBride's four sons: Walter, Edward, Henry and Anderson, and two nephews, Felix Perres and O.T. McBride.

The well conducted arrangements were in charge of the Ardoin Funeral Home.

With Mrs. McBride's death, one of Rayne's most colorful characters has passed on. With her went a wealth of history and lore of this community since she was one of the first residents of Rayne and the former Poupeville. Her father, August Perres, Sr., came to this section of Louisiana from France, and was one of the first to make his home in the vicinity of what is now known as Rayne. He married a Miss LeBlanc who was in turn a daughter of a Miss Broussard, the family line being direct descendants of Longfellow's famous "Evangeline". Mrs. McBride's mother was originally from what is now the Church Point community, but after her marriage, she and Mr. Perres moved to this section. Mrs. McBride was born on one of the largest tracts in the State at that time, owned by her father and located in and around Poupeville, near the present John Servat farm. The settlement gradually grew and the present St. Joseph Church was established near there some 70 years ago. Later, with the passing of the Southern Pacific Lines, the entire settlement was moved up to the tracks and renamed Rayne, Mrs. McBride moving into town 65 years ago she married Walter Scott McBride of the Church Point section and since that time, has made her home continuously in Rayne.

To talk with her was a rare treat, for she had the customs and history of the community at her fingertips and with her many experiences in the early days, she was a source of unusual and accurate information. During her girlhood and early wife-hood, the families had to spin their own cotton and weave their cloth for wearing apparel. All of their cooking was done in chimneys, and hardships were plentiful. Mrs. McBride was one of the few of these Louisiana pioneers who lived to see electricity become universally used along with thousands of other inventions and improvements, and she kept in touch with the wide progress of the world during her last years.

Her keen mind and active sense of humor, made Mrs. McBride a constant source of pleasure to her family and hundreds of friends, these faculties even seeming to improve with the advancement of years. She recognized everyone immediately and always had a friendly greeting for all.

In her last illness, around her bedside were gathered her "boys" and "girls", always girls and boys to her although they have grown to mature years with homes of their own. The life so long interwoven with theirs, they watched with grief-stricken hearts, while it slowly but surely passed over. The love of a mother for her children passes all human understanding and just such a love did this mother have for her family. We feel confident that in coming years the memory of her unselfish devotion will be for them a guiding star and an ever present inspiration. Although fully aware that her "four score and ten" had long since passed, this mother had no fear of death. She talked with members of her family about the past and planned for the present and future. Her last words were of love for her children, and that quiet closing scene has left with them the indication of that wonderful peace to which she has been claimed after her long years of service and labor on this earth. A true Christian, Mrs. McBride practiced the precepts of her early teaching faithfully, and was prepared when the last summons came.

Tribune bows its head in grief at the passing of so loved a figure, and it is with sincere regret that we add our words of condolences to those who have been voiced by the scores of friends throughout this section.

Surviving Mrs. McBride, former Miss Aurelia Perres, are six children: Anderson of Rayne, Henry of Port Arthur, Miss Ella McBride, Walter, Edward, and Mrs. Jos. Privat, all of Rayne. In addition she is survived by one adopted daughter, Mrs. G. Besse of Port Arthur; four half-sisters: Mrs. Sylvestre Boudreaux, and Mrs. John LeBleu of Rayne and Mrs. Adam Talbot and Mrs. Felix Royer of Port Arthur; and one half-brother, Anatole Clement of Rayne; seventeen grandchildren, and one niece, Mrs. Lucille Jeanmard of Lafayette and one nephew, Felix Perres of Rayne. Her only brother, August Perres, Jr., preceded her in death a number of years ago.

Possum McGinty
September 11, 1946 - August 6, 2015

Possum McGinty was born on September 11, 1946 in Brazoria County, Texas to Melba (Andrus) and Bill McGinty and passed away on August 6, 2015 at the age of 68. Possum was a one of a kind, burley and amazing man. He lived life the way he wanted to. He loved to have fun. He didn't take anything from any one, but if you needed something, he was the first to help. Possum was one of those people; you either loved him or you didn't.

He loved life and loved his wife and kids, not only in words but in actions. They never needed anything; he saw to that, what ever it took. He was a daddy that was always there in good times and bad. He taught his kids and grandkids how to handle what ever life threw at them and he tried his very best to help them. He loved them all the same and even thought there were times when they had it hard and he expected more from them. He only wanted them to have more than what he had when he was growing up. He wanted them to make something out of themselves. As always, he didn't express it the way others would, but he made sure he said it anyway.

Possum loved his family with his whole heart, but to him there was only one person that could ever be the best and that was his wife, Debra. She was Possum's life and he wanted her to have the best of everything and worked hard to see that the love of his life was always happy. Possum always said that she was his best friend.

He loved to cook and made the best home made rolls. Possum also loved to pick up cans. He would sell them and give the money to his kids or people who needed help. He also loved to stop and talk with people. He would ride his golf cart and take his great grandson with him.

Possum and his family lived in North Zulch for the past 37 years and were members of the Iola Worship Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom & Ronnie McGinty; his mother-in-law, Irma Vice; brothers-in-law, Doug Vice and David Stephens.

Survivors include: his wife Debra McGinty; son, Charley Bill Stark; three daughters, Tiffany McGinty, Kay Anderson & husband, Anthony, Karla Garza & husband, Edward; three brothers, Sam McGinty, James McGinty & Billy Ray McGinty and a sister, Donna Kay Davis. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Chaciti Bradford & husband, Kedrick, Tyce Alexander, Possum McGinty, Levi Stark, Faith McGinty, Steven Kapeel, Jonathon Kapeel, Dustin Kapeel and Kavin Bradford and Killian Bradford.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

3217 Obituary:

Preston "Babe" Myrick
August 7, 1942 - December 21, 2022

Preston "Babe" Myrick, 80, arrived in Heaven with his dancing shoes in hand on the morning of December 21, 2022.

Visitation will be held Tuesday 27, 2022 between 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home located 906 S. Gregg St, Big Spring, Texas 79720. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, December 28th, 2022 at 2:00 PM located in the little white chapel at Trinity Memorial Park 6900 US-87, Big Spring, TX 79720.

He was born to RL and Irene Myrick on August 7th, 1942 in Big Spring Texas, where he spent most of his life. Oh! The stories of his childhood he would tell, but we could never repeat some, kept everyone astonished and amused.

Growing up he had many oddball jobs then worked at Cosden Refinery for over 10 years. He was such a handyman he became self-employed with his own businesses from Home Appliance Repair, Heating and AC, even a little convenience grocery on 3rd street to an RV Park in Sand Springs off of I-20.

When he was a kid he had the love of baseball, as a young adult he bowled on Leagues with family and friends. His favorite pastime was dancing. He would go dancing every chance he had somewhere. His daughter's fondest memories were dancing around like little girls do on daddy's feet. As he grew older in the final years the simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to dad, except Dominoes, Cards, Board games and Bingo he said they were for old people.

He married his first love when he was 19 and they had two daughters which he loved and cherished. Malynda Nowell (Anthony) of Midland TX with 4 children (Curtis, Rachel, Taylor and Dylan) and 4 grandchildren (Conor, James, Emma and Everett). Carrie Libby (Paul) of Bartlesville OK with 4 children (John, Luke, Adam, Jacob), no grandchildren as of yet.

He grew up with 3 siblings Dywanna Robertson (Ducky) of Fort Worth TX, Kenneth Myrick (Fran) of Seguin TX, Jerry Myrick of Big Spring TX. He cherished and loved his sister and brothers like there was no tomorrow, they were all best friends. There was not a day that went by that they did not speak to one another.

He had many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins that hung the moon in his eyes.

He was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in 2009 that spread to his brain in 2010. He had so much determination and courage to get through the grueling treatment that MD Anderson put forward. We were blessed to have him much longer than the Dr's predicted. Over many years the side effects of Chemo and Radiation eventually took its tole that weakened his body, but not without a fight.

But God said it is time for you to DANCE again!

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com

PROMINENT CITIZEN OF TITUSVILLE DIES

-------

John R. Walker, Father of George Walker of This City Is Claimed By Death

-------

TITUSVILLE, Aug. 5 - Funeral services for John R. Walker, president of the local civic league, and one of the most prominent citizens of Brevard county, who died suddenly Thursday night, will be held here Sunday afternoon. Mr. Walker, who was 58 years old, had held numerous municipal and county offices since coming here from South Carolina 34 years ago.

He had served as county school superintendent, chairman of the board of county commissioners, and mayor of Titusville Beach Company. He had presided at a meeting of the Civic League Thursday night and jocularly complained of the heat but appeared in his usual good health. He died a few minutes after returning home from the meeting. Death was caused by the bursting of a blood vessel near the heart.

Mr. Walker, who was prominent in various fraternal organizations, is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Hester Elizabeth Swain of Titusville, three sons and a daughter.

-------

Son in Miami

George Walker of Miami is a son of the deceased, and another son, Charles Walker, is residing in Boston, Mass. Mr. Walker was well known in Florida as the "father of the league" which was organized to build a bridge across the Indian river, connecting Titusville with the ocean, and to build a road to Orlando and another to Orsino on Merritt Island. The people ratified Mr. Walker's idea at the polls, voting the bods for the proposed improvements, and it is a marked coincidence that on the day of his death the Brevard county commissioners let the contract for the bridge and roads which he conceived.

3250 Obituary:

Raymond Allen Johnson
March 22, 2016 ~ October 28, 2021

Raymond Allen Johnson passed away into the arms of the Lord on October 28, 2021. Raymond was born on March 22, 2016 in Austin, Texas to the parents of Riley Daniel Johnson and Lauren Haley Trail. Raymond's love for life started on day 1 to the day he left us. Raymond was always full of so much energy, especially when he played outside, which was something that he always enjoyed. His best friends were his sister Lacey Grace and his cousin Lucas Johnson, the three of them loved playing together. Some of Raymond's favourite things included; power rangers, dinosaurs, Legos, wagon rides, and anything else they could get their hands on.

At the age of two, Raymond was your typical little boy, always experimenting and trying to test the limits of his parent's patience. This all changed for Raymond and his family on October 4, 2018, when he was diagnosed with stage 4 hepatoblastoma, a very rare childhood liver cancer that impacts just one in a million children the ages 1-3, around the world each year. Raymond started chemotherapy at Dell Children Hospital followed by 5 surgeries, one to remove the primary tumor from his liver and the rest were on his lungs. He rang the bell on June 19th, 2019, when he finished his chemotherapy, and at that time it looked like Ray was on the home stretch and was finally in remission. Unfortunately, the cancer returned in his lungs and he had to start chemotherapy again. After another 4 rounds of chemotherapy, Ray was accepted into a clinical trial to test a new cancer treatment approach at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. In August of 2020, Ray was infused with modified CAR-T-Cells that were engineered to attack the metastasized cancer within his lungs. Through all of the treatments, Ray was always strong, always happy, and always found a way to make people smile, even when they were sad. He was truly one in a million! In January of 2021, Ray was given 10 rounds of radiation over two weeks to try and help reduce the size of the tumor. In March 2021, Ray's condition was determined to be terminal, and doctors gave Ray just one month to live. Despite this devastating news, Ray's quality of life improved dramatically and he started to regain his strength and once again enjoy his life. He took a trip with his family to Disneyworld and was part of the Lion King show. This past summer, Ray got to enjoy a normal boy's life. He got to play in the dirt, ride horses, catch fish, and even got to go to kindergarten. Ray loved the outdoors and spent some of his best days being outdoors with his family. He truly was a fighter, a warrior, and a hero to everyone.

Ray's journey inspired so many around the world to believe in miracles and re-discover their faith. The miracle was that he was with us for so long, always happy, and always smiling. He was a Ray of Light in everyone's life!

Ray is survived by his parents, Riley Daniel Johnson and Lauren Haley Trail; his sister, Lacey Grace; his grandparents, Suzy Renee Johnson and Dustan Ray Hale; Mark and Mira Johnson; Mark and Linda Trail; great grandparents, Pamela Poole and Mary Johnson; and his Uncle Ches and Aunt Kellany "Yang Yang" Johnson; and his cousin, Lucas Johnson.

Viewing will be on November 2, 2021, from 4-6 pm at Callaway-Jones Funereal Home, 3001 S. Collage Ave., Bryan, Texas 78701.

Memorial service will be on November 3, 2021, at 10 am at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 4220 Boonville Rd., Bryan, Texas 77802.
