| 1851 | Obituary: Janice Elizabeth Bradley October 25, 1944 - January 3, 2021 Janice Elizabeth (Turpin) Bradley, age 76, passed away peacefully January 3, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 25, 1944 to William Warren Turpin and Margaret (Boshell) Turpin. She married the love of her life, John Michael ('Mickey') Bradley, in October, 1965 who preceded her in death in 2007. Janice had a love for her flowers and shared a passion for vegetable gardening and fishing with her husband Mickey. The river house was a special place for them and where they enjoyed gathering with family and friends. On weekends they could also be found rooting for the Alabama Crimson Tide and UAB Blazers. She was the quintessential southern cook, cooking 'from scratch' and always had a tin of chocolate sweets at-the-ready if you dropped by for a visit. She doted on her family and friends for their birthdays and holidays especially where her love of traditions as well as personal and unique gift-giving was evident. In addition to homemaker, Janice was active in her church, St. Stanislaus, for many years, leading youth and ladies groups, organizing fund-raising events, and had a long-running career with State Farm Insurance in Hueytown, Alabama. She never met a stranger and helped so many over the years in their time of need. Her big smile and spunky sense of humor will be missed greatly. Janice was predeceased by her mother and father, husband, and sister Carolyn Turpin Carden. She is survived by her brother James Warren Turpin; her son Christopher Bryan Bradley; daughter Alecia Bradley Kontzen and son-in-law Robert Clark Kontzen, II; grandchildren, Christopher Andrew Kontzen and Ryan Michael Kontzen; her many brothers- and sisters-in-law and nephews and nieces. All of these she loved and whom many referred to as their 'beautiful Aunt Janice. Janice will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama where a graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends making a memorial donation to the American Cancer Society. | 1858 | Obituary: Jason Harold Davis January 31, 1971 - July 22, 2022 Jason Harold Davis "Bones", 51, of San Angelo, completed his victory lap on 7/22/22 and is now resting in the winners circle. Everyone was in aw with his relentless fortitude of almighty strength and sheer will to fight. Jason was born 1/31/71 in San Angelo, Tx to Wade and Bess Ann Davis. Early on Jason, could be found "working" at the Strip or pitbossin' for Hall Brothers Racing at Wall Dragway. Jason graduated from SACHS in 1990 as the proud president of IPT. Jason first worked at Strike It Rich Bingo (where he learned flirting with the ladies meant larger tips). Jason tried owning a vending business, "Jaysco", too many "beer belly bash's" and fluctuating profits, led him to his lifelong career. In 1994 Jason started as a laborer for Templeton Construction. During his tenure, through discipline, hard work, and night classes, he became a Master Carpenter. As the Project Superintendent, his mark will forever be seen in buildings like the Museum of Fine Arts, Catholic Outreach, and YMCA. One of his proudest achievements was moonlighting at Howard College, teaching Carpentry, improving the lives of others. Jason had a unique gift of assigning nicknames to people, objects, and events. It is uncanny how accurate and suitable his nicknames caught on, stayed on, and continue to live on. Jason's love for racing was emulated through his sons. He actually lived for watching the boys race, living through them vicariously. The deep love for his sons, grandchildren, and his mama could be seen and felt. The friendships he has forged throughout his life were deeply cherished and everlasting. We are going to miss the #1 Dallas Cowboys emotionally charged die hard, commentator of all times. Jason is survived by his parents Wade and Bess Ann Davis, his sons Garrett Daniel and Bailey Davis, his brothers Jeremy Bingham (April), Michael Davis, Daniel Davis, Dusty Davis. His grandchildren Kaisn Daniel, Kennedy Davis, Harper Davis, and Ryleigh Daniel, various aunts, uncles, cousins. Jason is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, Harold and Calline Hall (Pappaw & Granny), uncles Harold and Jody Hall. The family would like to say thank you to Sam and Leslie Rufenacht, and Jeff and Deborah Ward. You are truly Angels on Earth. Thank you to the many friends who stood by our Dad's side always making his life a little easier. Special thanks to Grandma Bess for your unconditional love and sticking by Dad's side through it all. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 Family visitation will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home on Tuesday July 26, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The family received visitors from 5-9pm Wednesday, January 25, and funeral services were set for 2pm Thursday, both at Nobles Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Henry Sanders officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland Cemetery. Jean was born in Big Spring, TX, the daughter of R.X. and Lillie Ruth (McGuire) McNew, and was raised on a ranch. She was the third oldest of 9 siblings, (5 girls, 4 boys). She helped raise her younger brothers and sisters while her parents ran the farm. She met Charles O. In 1962, second child Marty was born, and in1963 another son, Danny. Over the years, Jean and her family lived in Kentucky, California, Arizona, & Texas. She enjoyed raising her sons, they were her priority. She loved to sing, which she was great at. She was very active in bowling prior to her illness, loved the sport and her teammates! Jean helped Charles run their own business, mainly service stations in Kentucky. After selling the business and retiring, they traveled some and moved to Texas to be with their sons and grandchildren. Shortly afterwards Jean started working at Wal-Mart in Navasota. She quickly became loved by her co-workers and customers and became known as the famous "Ms. Jean" in electronics. Her siblings described her as a woman who loved the Lord, and family was her life. She was always positive and found the good in everyone. She always cared about others and was never selfish. Jean was the best homemade cream gravy maker in the world, according to her sons. She always had macaroni and cheese waiting for the grandkids, along with plenty of sweets. In the second half of 2009 when she learned she had cancer, she was ready to fight the battle at all costs. Doctors sent her to San Antonio and then to the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Jean was very proud of the fact that the doctors allowed her to have a stem cell transplant at the age of 72, and she came home cancer free!! Her desire was to be well and go back to work at Wal-Mart to be with all of her friends and people in the community, which she accomplished! At the beginning of 2012, Jean began to get tired and something didn't seem quite right. After many tests it was quickly learned that the cancer had returned and she was ready to fight the battle again. However, the Lord had different plans for her and took her to be with Him in Heaven. | 1880 | Obituary: Jeffery Todd Thatcher November 11, 1967 - June 9, 2022 Jeffery Todd Thatcher, 54, of Bryan, went to be with Jesus on June 9, 2022. Jeff was a big-hearted, loyal, and playful man who was always teasing his sisters, nieces, and nephews and got a good laugh out of someone falling for his jokes. He grew up in Bryan, Texas and graduated from Bryan High School in 1987. During his teen and young adult years, he worked as an auto mechanic with his dad and his favorite past-time was driving around in his Little Red Express Truck. As he got older, he always dreamed about restoring an '81 Toyota 4-wheel drive. Jeff was a die-hard NASCAR fan and had an extensive collection of NASCAR die-cast cars, hot wheels, and RC cars, as well as NASCAR shirts and hats. He could tell you the name of every NASCAR driver and their car number. Jeff knew that Jesus loved him so much and brought him through many hardships in his life. Diagnosed with Type I Juvenile Diabetes at the tender age of one year-old, one of the greatest days of his life was receiving the news that he would be the recipient of a pancreas and kidney from a donor match. He ultimately was able to share many more years with his family and friends, thanks to the generosity of the organ donor. Jeffery is reunited with his Grandma and Grandpa Pertl and Grandma and Grandpa Thatcher. He is survived by his parents, Scott and Joyce Thatcher; siblings, Alise Levens and husband Brad, Kristal Beachy and husband Kevin, and Jana Thatcher. He is also survived by the nieces and nephews he loved so much, Braeden and Landon Levens, and Danica, Carter, Brenham, and Adaline Beachy. Jerry was born in San Jose, California but moved here at seven and considered himself a native Texan. When he was 3 years old, Jerry was struck by an automobile. There were concerns that he would never walk again or have hair, but he defied the experts, so much so that he became a Junior Olympian in the high jump. The car accident and near-death experience shook his young parents to their core. They devoted themselves to their children beyond the pale, and in-turn he learned from them as wonderful role models. Jerry excelled in school as both an athlete and a scholar. He lettered in basketball and track, setting the school record and placing second state-wide in the high jump his junior year. Jerry loved to sing and was an officer in his high school choir. It was there, in fact, that he met Kelly. Their random assignment by height on the back row of the choir risers started their deep friendship that eventually led to their tall family. He attended Rice University. While there, he set the Rice track record for the high jump at 7' - a record that stood for more than 20 years. He sang in choir, made friendships of a lifetime and graduated with a double-major in Economics and Managerial Studies in 1986. Jerry and Kelly married on July 25, 1987. Jerry pursued his love of politics, and in 1989 they moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked as a Legislative Aide for Rep. Tim Valentine (D-NC) then Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL). He believed in working across the aisle, that it was a virtue, not a sin, to join with fellow citizens to better our nation. He supported Kelly whole-heartedly while she attended law school and joked that he earned an honorary degree himself by helping her study, keeping her fed and occasionally opening the door and throwing in supplies to her study group. When Katy arrived in 1998, Jerry discovered his talent as a Baby Whisperer, caring for Katy full-time without a moment's hesitation. He loved being a father and resented people who thought he was a "nice guy just giving his wife a break" when he was out with his kids. He set a high and fun monkey bar for parenting. Lane filled out the family in 2000 and solidified Jerry's position as Super Dad. He moved his young family from D.C. back to Austin in 2002 to be close to his and Kelly's families in Texas. The move was difficult, but he jumped in with both feet and devoted himself to what was most important to him, his children, his wife, and his family. Always a part of his daughters' education, Jerry insisted that the girls attend the All Austin Cooperative Nursery. He loved the freedom and spirit of that school! Once they started their years at Doss Elementary, Jerry found himself a new name: The Tie-Dye Guy. An expert in tie-dye art, Jerry made t-shirts for his daughters' classes, and eventually the entire student body well beyond his girls' time at Doss. He served as home-room parent, grade parent, chaired PTA committees, read books to students, mentored children with speech disabilities, and helped with every field trip and class party. It is no wonder why Jerry was awarded Volunteer of the Year for Doss - an honor he cherished. He loved being the super fun uncle in the family, but more than that, those kids loved him because he was genuinely curious about, interested in, and respectful of children. He relished helping them explore, grow, and learn. One of his happiest times in life was being a manny for his nephew, Dalton, and niece, Parker, when they were infants. When he wasn't holding a baby on his hip - literally he had a magic bounce - he was learning and growing himself. If he didn't know how to do something, he just figured it out. He loved NPR and was always listening to a podcast or a good book. Jerry was a true Renaissance man, as comfortable singing show tunes as he was installing wood floors barefoot. He wrote poetry, made his family's Christmas candy annually, and was the family tech support. Jerry was loyal, accepting and generous. He was a true advocate for women's rights, LGBTQ+, and everyone needing a dedicated supporter. As so many people have said, Jerry was Kindness Personified. As his daughter grew up he became a Band Dad and a Belle Dad and enjoyed every minute of being a part of the Anderson High School community. He joined Kelly at her law firm in 2018 when his daughters were both in college. He enjoyed learning about the law and as always was a caregiver to everyone at the office. In 2020, he and Kelly downsized their home and spent most of COVID renovating their smaller place - which is still not finished. Luckily his 2nd washer and dryer was recently installed in his dedicated tie-dye room, and he was able to enjoy putting it to good use. Jerry is predeceased by his father. Remembering Jer, and loving him always, are his wife, Kelly Jones Capps, daughters Katherine Elizabeth and Lane Caroline, mother Kathleen Joyce Capps; brother Chuck and his wife Donna Capps of Aikens, SC; nephew Charlie and his wife Lindsey Capps and their children Carter and Caden of Aiken, SC; brother Russ Capps and his wife Tami Heese Capps of Ennis, MT (and formerly of Clear Lake City, TX); his nephew Cory Capps of Clear Lake City, TX; brother-in-law Chris Jones, his wife Heather Jones, and their children Hays, Harper, and Tatum; brother-in-law Austin Holloway-Jones, his husband Dana Holloway-Jones and their children, Riley, Dalton, and Parker; mother-in-law Deanne Butterfield of Austin, TX; mother-in-law Mary Jane Jones of Austin, TX; and many other beloved family members. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 3:00 pm at Weed Corley Fish on Parkcrest. The family invites you to wear your tie-dye best. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make donations to the following organizations: Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, ACLU Foundation of Texas, or National Public Radio. | 1894 | Obituary: Jerry Keith Gable Jerry Keith Gable was peacefully released from his earthly life, while in the arms of his children at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center at 3:30 a.m., Monday, June 18, 2018 in Longview, Texas. Our family graciously invites family, friends and loved ones of Jerry Gable to join us and celebrate his life and memories Saturday, June 23 at 6 pm. We request that everyone please bring a copy of picture(s) with Jerry, and write your favorite memory of him to be collected for a scrapbook Saturday, June 23 6pm to 9pm, 602 North Lane Wells Drive Longview, Tx. 75604. Born and raised in Longview, attending Longview ISD, he wreaked much havoc in his hometown, gaining a "diverse medley" of life long friends. Growing up as his dad's right hand in their local fish market business, he soon ventured into a variety of career paths, including welding, flooring installation, warehouse forklift operator, he most enjoyed working and cutting up alongside his buddies at CSI Inc. Pridefully becoming a father at age 17, he made being a protective and loving Daddy his passion. A simple man, working hard for his family, with rough hands that could fix anything, a bellowing deep voice that still echoes in our memories, and larger than life hugs, he was truly a great man. His hard headedness, light-heartedness and quick wit could always bring laughter, with a fair amount of sarcasm that could, at times, get under your skin. He didn't mind much, he was always ok with being the a**hole. No matter who walked through his front door, his arms and heart were always open, with no regrets, he loved all. He chose to live his life to the fullest, keeping his declining health to himself until the final days. A special heartfelt appreciation is extended to the many loved ones that cared for him during this time. Jerry was reunited with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Troy Gable, brother Joe Larry Gable, and nephew John Troy Gable. He will cherishingly be remembered by his family and loved ones; his loyal, former and only wife of 20 years Julie Dianne Lindell (Husband-in-law Randy Lindell), their devoted children Jessica Gable-Franke (Billy Franke), Joni Gable Green, Justin Gable (Alyssa Gable); adored grandchildren Jacob Beall, Jared Green (Savanah Green), Tobi Dillard, Julie Green, Larry Walters, Jace Green, Justin Gable Jr., and Jameson Gable; precious great granddaughters Ava Beall and Malorie Mendez. He will also be lovingly missed by his life-long best friend and sister Judy Leak (Jack Leak Sr.), and beloved nephews Jack Leak Jr. (Penny Leak), Joe Allen Gable and Jaysen Leak along with their children. We will have some refreshments. Please RSVP with any food items you plan to bring directly to Joni to coordinate by Facebook messenger (Joni Denise) or by text to (405)-590-1350. Viewing will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, 602 North Lane Wells Drive, Longview, Texas 75604. (Published in The Longview News-Journal on June 22, 2018) | Gable, Jerry Keith (I12052)
